Guest guest
The LLMD pediatrician in CT does not use the CD-57 test. He doesn't feel they are accurate for children. Mira
Guest guest
What is the difference between adults and children? The CD57 test made the difference in my treatment for chronic Lyme. Guest guest
I don't know, but he is " the " expert pediatric LLMD, so he must know something more specific than I do. I would definitely use it if I were an adult with Lyme, just stating what he said regarding the use in children in case the original poster wants to use her money on a different test/treatment, etc. Mira Re: [ ] CD57 testing question What is the difference between adults and children? Guest guest
Our MD here used this test on my dtr (age 15 at the time of testing) > > >
Guest guest
> there are MANY doubts regarding the CD57 test, if only because different labs can come to very different test results. It certainly is NOT specific to lyme, so a low value does not prove the patient has LD (Borrelia infection). At best, with an experience LLMD, it may be used to monitor the patients progress during treatment. But even the value of such use is seriously doubted in the literature, the few articles in favor of using this marker for LD patients are all from the same people (Stricker etc.). Guest guest
What other infections are suspected to suppress CD57? Bartonella? Babesia? Any ideas? > > > there are MANY doubts regarding the CD57 test, if only because different labs can come to very different test results. Guest guest
> > > What other infections are suspected to suppress CD57? at least several other spirochetes (like Treponema pp) and some viruses can cause low CD57; probably many more, I don't think anyone has really checked. IMHO it is a severely flawed 'indicator' at best. CD57 is just a subset of the immune cells, there is no reason why it should be specific to Borrelia or even spirochetes.
