Does anyone know if you can make probiotics? or something similar to a

probiotic, would yogurt or kefir be the closest?

Yogurt, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, miso, some kinds of pickles - all have

probiotics and you can make yourself. Trick is the natural fermentation and

starter cultures. I don't know specifically what kinds of bacteria they each

have in them, but they are all foods with living probiotics. Check out the body

ecology diet - they sell some starters and have culture recipes.

I think kefir would be best, because it is a symbiotic group of very different

micro-organisms, while yoghurt is just a few different bacteria. And I doubt if

there is much live bacteria in normal yoghurt these days, it seems to be more of

a chemical product nowadays than the result of traditional fermentation ...
