Guest guest
For me, it seems it's when my body doesn't detox the toxins fast enough. So the herbs till bugs; that means more debris to elimiate. hence more magnesium - I use both tablets and that Calm powder, more colon cleanses, coffee enemas, saunas - to detox. Oh, and I make my own milk thistle and dandelian capsules. I believe the herbs are just doing their job and you have to help the liver keep up. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Tuesday, September 14, 2010 4:35 PM Subject: [ ] Herbs + Constipation (What's the mechanism) Sorry... I know I've posted about this a few times... After reading 'Healing Lyme' again... Buhner even says the herbs have a tendency to cause constipation. So can anybody explain why this is? What the mechanism is? Is it lack of enzymes? Are the herbs not being broken down? (My diet is full of fiber, I eat healthy, I drink water only, etc etc) The constipation didn't start until I started the herbs.
Guest guest
That seems like an accurate assumption. I'm adding dandelion to my knotweed capsules and I already take milk thistle and red root. I do think it's a combination of the herbs killing, pulling, binding to toxins and that just clogs everything up. I take sarsaparilla to help with detox... but it's another one that can cause constipation because it pulls toxins off the colon wall and binds to them. It can be dehydrating, imo. > > For me, it seems it's when my body doesn't detox the toxins fast enough. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just joined this list last week and have been lurking. Quick introduction: my name's Trish, I've been studying natural medicine as a hobby for the past ten years; hopefully I can offer a bit of knowledge and experience here. We live in a very Lyme-endemic area, my daughter had a bad case of Lyme a year ago and she may be relapsing or re-infected now. We're waiting for test results to provide more clues. Currently I have a Bartonella infection, with possible Lyme. Regarding constipation, I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but if you have trouble with it, avoiding ALL white flour and processed grains is essential. White flour especially clogs the system like cement. This is why it was used as a " treatment " for diarrhea in the 1800's. I also pay attention to the Ayurvedic principles outlined in the excellent book/guide Ayurvedic Cooking for Westerners. What alleviates constipation in one person might cause it in another person...I consider that book essential for figuring out how foods affect me. I mention this just in case that approach appeals to anyone. With gratitude for your insights, and wishes for your health- Trish On 09/17/2010 02:24 PM, wrote: > > That seems like an accurate assumption. > > I'm adding dandelion to my knotweed capsules and I already take milk > thistle and red root. > > I do think it's a combination of the herbs killing, pulling, binding > to toxins and that just clogs everything up. > > I take sarsaparilla to help with detox... but it's another one that > can cause constipation because it pulls toxins off the colon wall and > binds to them. Guest guest
Thanks Trisha. Ya I avoid whites like the plague. I think another issue with the herbs might be the fact that some are diuretics. As I understand it... that can mean they force urination and thus maybe have dehydrating effects?? And we know dehydration can cause constipation. I dunno... I'm sure it's a combination of so many things. I'm actually starting to think BART can cause constipation. Because I've begun to treat it successfully and the constipation is withering away. I also stopped using so much ground flax meal with my breakfast... I think that absorbs a lot of water too.. again leaving me dehydrated and thus constipated. > > > > That seems like an accurate assumption. > > > > I'm adding dandelion to my knotweed capsules and I already take milk > > thistle and red root. > > > > I do think it's a combination of the herbs killing, pulling, binding > > to toxins and that just clogs everything up. > > > > I take sarsaparilla to help with detox... but it's another one that > > can cause constipation because it pulls toxins off the colon wall and > > binds to them.
