Guest guest
Thank you, Yarrow. If I start her on Knotweed 1/4 tsp once a day, what is the ultimate dosage I am working up to? (She is barely 100 lbs.) While I do plan on starting slowly, using just Knotweed to start, what would be the next " most " important herb to add after that? I would like to target Babs to see if she has any herx or improvement because her LLMD doesn't want to treat for Babs--saying the Bart is her biggest issue right now; however, where she has plateaued in her symptoms with just Lyme and Bart treatment (and one of her earliest tests came back with borderline Babs positive), I'd like to see if Babs may in fact be the issue. Her biggest remaining symptoms are all over body/muscle pains/aches, frontal headache (sinus-pressure like), fatigue, and Bart marks. Will Knotweed help those symptoms? Any other Buhner herbs that target those? (I have Buhner's book and have read it, but I'm feeling overwhelmed right now and just want to start her on something. Thanks for understanding!) Thanks for all your help. I'm nervous to add yet more stuff into her little body, but I really, really feel that herbs are the missing factor at this point. Guest guest
Thank you Knotweed. I'll keep that in mind and switch options up if she finds yogurt or applesauce makes the herbs taste worse. Mira [ ] Re: Taking herbs when unable to swallow pills? It takes a bit of experimenting, some herbs don't mix wel with watery substances and need some fat (e.g. like found in yoghurt) and for some the taste is a problem. Catsclaw mixes with yoghurt, but this seems to increase the unpleasant taste (maybe I should try applesauce ...). With andrographis the only thing that works for me is swallowing with coffee or strong chocolate, in order to mask the intensely bitter taste. Guest guest
Hi Mira, You and I are in similar situations, treating children. I just started my almost 8-year-old daughter on antibiotics today for Lyme. She had a bad case last year with Bell's Palsy. I'm trying smilax (1/3 of a pill opened and mixed into applesauce) today, and Vitamin C and enzymes, but will also be adding more herbs as I get a feel for how she is handling things. This is so tough. I'm thinking of adding the herbs one at a time, as Buhner recommends in this case, to a person who is very sensitive to the herbs: http://planetthrive.com/2009/10/reaction-to-lyme-herbs/ He says, " I would begin with /eleutherococcus/ tincture, 1/8 tsp 3x daily, and cat's claw. Then after a month, if this goes well, add in resveratrol and go for another month at low dose. Then add in andrographis and see how it works for you. " I haven't found more specific information yet. I have been trying small doses of Knotweed on her for the past two weeks or so, and she gets pretty sick from it every time. So I'll switch to the eleuthero and cat's claw. Have you considered using the whole herbs and making teas? Best wishes, I kind of know how you feel! Trish
Guest guest
That's okay--I understand. I'll read Buhner's book further and/or contact an herbalist, etc., just thought you might know off hand--so no problem! I wish so much that I could muscle test her. I've tried a couple of times, but it was quite comical--lol. I wish you much success in your healing and a fast and complete recovery! Thanks again for all your help. I do appreciate it! Mira [ ] Re: Taking herbs when unable to swallow pills? Dear Mira, I so wish i could answer your questions with confidence and wisdom. Sorry to say I don't feel qualified to guide you or your daughter so specifically through these next steps. My own body is quite ill and i'm taking things moment to moment. What I do is muscle test with my partner or a friend to discern what is right to take each day, as it is always shifting. My understanding is that there are herbalists and doctors who are versed in the Buhner protocol who would be more qualified to guide you. Peace and ease, yarrow
Guest guest
Thank you, Trish. Sorry to hear your daughter is sick too--these infections are truly horrid! I've been researching Eleuthero tincture (trying to find one that is alcohol free) and plan on ordering some soon as well as knotweed and cat's claw. I'm also going to research the cryptolep (sp?), though definitely want to add in one at a time to observe herxes and reactions. Thanks for the planet thrive link. I haven't thought of making teas, but that is a great idea--wonder though how to know how much herb to add to equal the recommended dose? I hope your daughter finds relief soon! Guest guest
Thank you, Mira. Directions for making the knotweed decoction are in the book: for an adult dose you simmer one ounce of herb (28 grams) in 32 ounces water (1 liter) for 20 minutes, strain, cool and drink in four equal doses during the day. That is the only one I can find tea-making directions for, but I know the eleuthero also comes as a tea. How it tastes is, I suppose, another matter. I have some NOW brand cat's claw which is powdered, and I assume other brands are as well, so that should go easily into applesauce. Thanks for your condolences about my daughter, she's still got her spunk so I'm relieved (for now.) Best wishes with healing your child, too! Guest guest
I'm very sensitive to meds and herbs. I have to take very low doses. Most often tinctures work the best for me. You can just use one drop (which I do with a couple of the herbs). This might work for children as well. Connie Re: [ ] Re: Taking herbs when unable to swallow pills? Guest guest
Thank you, Connie, for your suggestion. I'm going to try her on the eleuthero tincture--only found one brand that is alcohol free, and it's not HerbPharm. HerbPharm is supposedly the best per Buhner, so I may just get that despite the alcohol content. The knotweed I will most likely have to give in herb form (or tea--if I can figure out how to gauge the dosage amts)--don't think it comes in tincture form but still researching. Hope you find relief soon! Mira Re: [ ] Re: Taking herbs when unable to swallow pills? I'm very sensitive to meds and herbs. I have to take very low doses. Most often tinctures work the best for me. Guest guest
Excellent! Thank you! Mira [ ] Re: Taking herbs when unable to swallow pills? Mira, I order my Herb Pharm Eleuthero in a glycerin based liquid from iherb.com. Don't like the alcohol taste so this is much better.
