Just like many of you I've been through so much, and felt so very alone. I had a really tough year, 6 years ago where I was having pain and insomnia and kept feeling lousy and anxious. I had been through a recent divorce so everyone told me it was depression which I knew was wrong. Well, finally I got hit with a ton of who knows what and was so sick I could barely stand (now, in retrospect, I think the lyme just wiped out my adrenals and exhausted my immune system so that I was open to all sorts of things). Everyone told me that I looked great and doctors said it must be depression or CFS. Well, finally over a year later, I found out I had lyme. I was so sick that I spent most of 3 years in bed and felt so completely alone. I'm a single mom so the fact that my kids needed me helped me not give up. I have one brother who lives too far away to be of help and my closest friend moved 3 states away, 2 months after I got sick. What I discovered is that there are really angels everywhere. And also, I think it is easier sometimes for people who are not emotionally attached to you to be of help. It seemed like people I knew, where afraid I would need too much or something so they slowly withdrew from my life. I felt friendless. BUT, over time I became very close to a couple of the women who stepped in to help out. Also, I learned to ask for help which is not an easy thing. Where I live, and I'm sure in most places, there is an organization that sends out volunteers to help or just visit with people who can't get out much. Of course, usually they are helping elderly people but they are happy to help people with lyme disease too! I found some nice connections that way. (church's also provide this sort of thing) I also called the red cross for rides to doctor appointments when I couldn't find anyone to help and had some lovely experiences there too. I called on neighbors I barely knew and straight out asked for some help a couple of times and they were so thrilled that I had thought to contact them. After that, they would call to say hello or bring me bread or see if I needed something at the store. All these things, all these people, helped me to feel a little more connected to the flow of humanity. What a difference that made! This group and others are wonderful too. It could be that some of us live near one another. I am also happy to talk to anyone who wants to connect with someone who really understands. So email me if you want! I was bedridden for seven years. Then slowly I started to take care of myself and not everybody else. That is when I was able to finally leave an abusive relationship. Guest guest Posted August 19, 2010 Report Share Posted August 19, 2010 You know this is so true....you are forced to ask sometimes the near strangers..and most often there will be someone there...but you got to put yourself out...i have been ill over 6 yrs...and now i have a 3 yr oldwith autism..and i am very much alone..i am also getting him tested for lyme..golly you know...it really helps to have this group and know your not alone...some days in the past ..wondered how to get through it..but i kept going and today i am closer to my goal of wellness because of it....I am only 3 month into my treatemnt for chronic lyme..
