Buhner protocol

Hi everyone,

I've been on the Buhner protocol over a month now (I get my herbs consolidated

in one capsule, as well as a couple of tinctures from Tim , an herbalist

recommended by Buhner). I've felt no effect so far. Has anyone else had

this experience? Does it take longer for the herbs to kick in? I've been to

just about every doctor there is and if this doesn't work, I'm not sure where

else to turn.

Thanks!

For my family, we all had to completely change our diet. Lyme and co.

damage the immune and digestive systems, so we need all the help we can

get. We eat totally organic, except for meat. We eat only natural

meats with no preservatives. There are many diet choices out there, and

they mainly focus on raw, organic, low-sugar, unprocessed foods. Wheat

and dairy are often omitted as well. Mold and electrosmog are two other

factors that can block healing, so these may need to be addressed as

well. For my family, carpeting had to be removed. Most people do

herx. Keep working with your herbalist to get to the issue. It could

also mean you have mainly viral problems or something amiss in your body

interrupting the treatments, keeping them from working.

Love and prayers,

Heidi N

Hi everyone,

I have been on the Buhner protocol about a month (I get the herbs

consolidated in one capsule as well as a couple of tinctures from Tim

, an herbalist whom Buhner recommended) and have just started the

maximum dosage. I've felt no effect so far (I've had symptoms for at

least 25 yrs; main complaint is fatigue and I also have joint and muscle

aches). Has anyone had the same experience? Does it take longer than a

month for the herbs to kick in? I've been to every doctor there is and

if this doesn't work I really don't know where else to turn....Thanks!

I have been taking Tim's consolidated capsules since April, and I have had

consistent, slow progress thus far. In my case, every small dose increase has

brought on large herz discomfort.

just wondering: did you take ABX before starting the Buhner protocol, or was

this your first treatment for lyme?

I had strong herxes on ABX (about one year, IV + oral), but almost no herxes on

Buhner protocol which I started half a year after the ABX.

I had more improvement on Buhner compared to ABX. I'm guessing the herx

reactions with Buhner protocol were relatively mild for me because the ABX had

already lowered my bacterial load.

> yes, I took a six week course of doxy two years ago, after I was first tested

positive for Lyme (w blot). I didn't notice any change.

I don't think doxy has much effect against Borrelia, except maybe in really high

doese like 400 mg daily. But it does have anti-inflammatory properties that can

give temporary relief it there is strong inflammation in the tissues.

> Sounds plausible. What kind of ABX did you take?

I used 6 weeks of IV rocephin and about a year of various oral ABX +

cystbusters, in 2006/2007. First doxy + plaquenil, after that Zinnat (cefuroxim

axetil) plus Flagyl (Metronidazole).

The rocephin was pretty effective for neuro problems, but most other benefits

were temporary. The oral ABX also had mostly temporary effects and caused new

problems. I had to stop ABX because of liver damage and other problems, and

because I was denied further treatment.

Hi,

When you say

" The oral ABX also had mostly temporary effects

and caused new problems. I had to stop ABX because of liver damage and

other problems " - were the new problems the liver damage?

I find myself questioning now, after about 7 months of oral abx, if any

significant and sustaining improvement is actually happening.

after the ABX I was found to have gall stones (probably from the previous IV

rocephin course), strongly increased liver enzymes (liver damage) and I had

serious gut problems, diagnosed as gluten intolerance (probably because of

insufficient gut support through probiotics etc.).

I also started to develop strange connective tissue problems quickly after I

started with ABX treatment, but that could be coincidence.

in my case I doubt there was any sustaining improvement from the oral ABX. But

it is difficult to say for sure, the disease changes over time. Some neuro

problems and most of the pain problems (in joints, muscle etc.) slowly

disappeared during ABX use. But maybe these would have disappeared anyway, with

or without treatment. Some problems continued during treatment and other issues

got worse (e.g. tinnitus, vertigo).

I did have herx reactions, showing that the ABX was doing something, but this

was mostly introducing additional (temporary) problems, not improving things.

Unfortunately, many others seem to have similar experience with ABX. I know just

a few chronic lymies who improved strongly from ABX.
