Guest guest
Could it possibly be that you are in your lyme cycle? I cycle every 4-6 weeks. By any chance are you on your menstrual cycle? Or days before or after? I usually feel worse every 4-6 weeks or sometimes around my menstrual cycle. -Sonya Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone with SprintSpeed [ ] digestive issues from protocol..... Anyone else having digestive complaints from taking the core protocol? I have abdominal tenderness, flatulence, bloating, diarrhea and also constipation- which were not my normal Lyme and co-infection symptoms. I am about 7 or so weeks into the protocol and feeling worse than when I started. The second or third week into the protocol I felt more energy and a little more clarity but today all my Lyme symptoms of brain fog, fatigue, joint, muscle pain are raging. I'm currently up to 4 caps 3x/day of Cats Claw, Japanese Knotwood, Andrographis. I am also taking Eleuthero, Sarsaparilla and Teasel root. I'm thinking maybe I need to amp down my dosage. Do other people herx from taking the Buhner protocol? Thanks for any input.
Guest guest
Hi. I've rarely had problems on the protocol except for about a month when I had diarrhea in about month 8 or 9. I remember reading somewhere that one of the ingredients could cause some reactions. I think it was in the Healing Lyme book. Can't find the book right now, but you may be able to look it up. Guest guest
I found I couldn't even take the herbs because they brought on these same symptoms. Two days of resveratrol created GI distress for well over a week. I began suspecting that this is a GI herx. Someone recently shared this article with me and it explains a lot about the GI issues (for me at least). A long but good read. http://www.thehumansideoflyme.net/viewarticle.php?aid=62 & PHPSESSID=0135a9baf7685\ 0bc88459fea84474274 deb > > Anyone else having digestive complaints from taking the core protocol? Guest guest
Hi Sonya- Thanks for writing back. Yes I think I am before my mense. However I have had the intestinal upset since about the second week of the protocol when I started ramping up. Now I just feel more tired than before I started. Maybe I am also having a herx on top of whatever is going on- like if I am taking too much of maybe one herb is not sitting we with me. I am curious if people herx from the protocol-sounds like you do. I had read other's accounts of their progress and it seemed they were feeling improvement by now. > > Could it possibly be that you are in your lyme cycle? I cycle every 4-6 weeks. Guest guest
Yes, . After 4 weeks on the protocol, all of a sudden I started having violent diarrhea, which lasted for 4 weeks, until I stopped taking ALL of the herbs. After I started adding them again, one by one, it appears that Andrographis is the culprit. After a month of violent upset, I am as yet unwilling to try taking it in smaller doses to see up to what dose, if any, I can tolerate it; I'm just happy to have located the cause. The funny part is that I had been taking 3 pills, 3 times a day as per protocol, without any disturbance at all for 4 weeks before suddenly being hit with diarrhea. I don't think that this is a herx reaction. It does say in the SHB book that andrographis can cause allergic reactions & GI disturbance (PP 87, 89) but not diarrhea, in fact, its a cure for diarrhea. Good luck. > > Anyone else having digestive complaints from taking the core protocol? Guest guest
- I am not on the Buhner protocol. I am a member of the forum to get as much info from it as possible so if all else fails, the Buhner protocol is the one I may turn to. I take Bicillin injections. I just know that lyme bacteria (as well as babesia & maybe others) have a life cycle of every 4-6 weeks & people tend to feel sicker during a certain point in that cycle (almost like herxing for a weeks). I hope that helps somewhat. That has been my experience as well as many other people I have spoken to. I have also heard of others on this forum mention having GI issues from taking some of the herbs. Hopefully after the weekend, you may get more answers. Take care. -Sonya Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone with SprintSpeed [ ] digestive issues from protocol..... > > Anyone else having digestive complaints from taking the core protocol? Guest guest
Yes! I Herx a lot from them. I've been on the Buhner protocol for about a month now, and I have noticed that it definitely increases my Lyme symptoms. I'm only taking the 'starter' dose of the core protocol herbs. Before the protocol, my Lyme symptoms were mild, but they ramped up. Before the protocol, I was managing my symptoms with TCM herbs. (Trad Chinese Med). It seemed that the TCM herbs were doing a good job of smoothing out the rough spots, but they did not eradicate my Lyme symptoms entirely. So I decided to try the protocol. With TCM herbs, there is no one-size-fits-all solution to every malady, and I'm sure that's true for the Buhner protocol as well. Everyone reacts differently. some are super-sensitive, and some are not. The course of Lyme is experienced differently by each person it afflicts. For this reason, I don't like the term, 'protocol' -- however, the 'protocol' herbs definitely do stir things up well for ME, and I plan to continue experimenting with them in conjunction with TCM herbs. If you're experiencing too much discomfort, I'd say back off on your dose! Listen to your body, trust your instincts. Phil > > Anyone else having digestive complaints from taking the core protocol? Guest guest
Have u ever heard of metabolic typing? It claims that there isn't a one diet fits all. Everyones biochemistry is different and needs different types of food to support it. It really is interesting. Amy A. Everyones biochemistry is different and needs different types of food to support it. It really is interesting. in my country some docs suggest different diets for different blood groups, or even more detailed based on other genetic markers. From what I have read, there is very little hard science in this. All the info is statistical by nature, following a specific diet for your bloodgroup might help, but it could also have adverse effects. Maybe it is better to just 'listen to your body' and use the food that your body craves for (not sugar etc. of course).
Guest guest
Hi My 23 years old daughter has neuro lyme and is following the Bunher protocol except for Andrographis (now in the 5 week) with other supplements. She just had to amp down the the dose of Cats Claw and Japanese Knotwood because of herx. To support her digestive system Tania is taking I5 from Xymogen ( www.xymogen.com) and is doing very well with it.
