I couldn't agree more with Jen.  I've been adjusting the doses of the various

herbs and will continue to do so.  It's the only way to ascertain what amounts

of each herb you can tolerate.

It has been my experience that if you're going to herx - that usually

happens within 3 days. How did you happen to start taking the herbs?

Subject: [ ] Buhner protocol

Hi everyone,

I've been on the Buhner protocol over a month now (I get my herbs

consolidated in one capsule, as well as a couple of tinctures from Tim

, an herbalist recommended by Buhner). I've felt no effect so

far. Has anyone else had this experience? Does it take longer for the herbs

to kick in? I've been to just about every doctor there is and if this

doesn't work, I'm not sure where else to turn.

Thanks!

It took me several month to begin to see some benefit. I had a positive IGENEX

so felt committed that I was on the right path. After 17 years of illness

diagnosed as CFIDS where I had tried all sorts of things to no avail, I was more

than willing to stick with it. Three years later, it definitely got me started

on the road to improvement. I am totally committed to the Buhner Protocol though

I have branched out and added since the beginning.

Fatigue has always been my major 'herx' reaction. Very hard for me to tell if

its a downturn in illness or herx. But fatigue is the issue.

Wishing you the best, jo

Hi -

I've been working with Tim since late May, taking the consolidated

herb capsules he sells and also Sarsaparilla from him and Eleuthero from

Herb Pharm. I am about to add Stephania tincture for headaches. I think

I am *very* gradually feeling better. Someone on another listserv who

has used herbs for years said the following to me, which I found very

helpful:

" Herbal remedies take a longer time to show results because they are

given in minute doses. Antibiotics, on the other hand, pummel the

spirochetes, and you start to feel the effects within a few days. The

herbals are rebuilding cells and boosting immunity while creating an

uncomfortable environment for the spirochetes and eventually killing

them off. Cleansing herbal protocols will then flush them your body...

The herbal, alternative route requires a lot of patience and belief in

how the protocol works in your body... As I said, they are helping to

rebuild damaged systems in your body. What you should 'feel',

eventually, is calmness, cleanliness, clarity, overall sense of well

being as your body gets stronger and healthier. "

So, this sounds fairly subtle to me, and corresponds with my own

experience so far on this protocol.

I also want to say that my experience with Tim has been extremely

positive. I went to Brattleboro to meet with him and had an acupuncture

treatment when I was there. He's been very responsive to my questions

since then. He seems very knowledgeable, compassionate, and attentive,

and has personal experience dealing with Lyme.

Best of luck with your treatment!

,

This is superb advice - thanks for sharing. Herbs in general do not *always*

work slowly. However, in my experience with chronic Lyme, there is no magic

bullet that works quickly. For me, Lyme has become a way of life - working on

every aspect of my health. Although suffering and changing my lifestyle was

difficult, I am thankful for Lyme because it has improved my life overall.

I have also worked with Tim and had a similar experience: compassionate,

friendly, and knowledgable about the Buhner protocol. I have been taking Tim's

consolidated capsules since April, and I have had consistent, slow progress thus

far. In my case, every small dose increase has brought on large herz

discomfort. So, after nearly 4 months, I'm only up to 4 caps per meal. Working

on 5....

Be well,

Phil

this your first treatment for lyme?

yes, I took a six week course of doxy two years ago, after I was first tested

positive for Lyme (w blot). I didn't notice any change. The first time I

noticed a herx response was when my TCM doc (no, not Tim) prescribed wormwood in

my herb formula. Wormwood seems to help.

reactions with Buhner protocol were relatively mild for me because the ABX had

already lowered my bacterial load.

Sounds plausible. What kind of ABX did you take?
