HI -- this is in response to you mentioning light sensitivity. I basically

cleared that symptom up(as well as eye pain and blurred focus) immediately(in

24 hours!)by drinking Ultra mangosteen juice. I order it online from

vitacost. It's an anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant juice; you can drink a small

amount

of juice with lots of water. -- Robin

UNLESS you want to herx really bad, you should add in Red Root tincture, and

Milk Thistle.

Red Root is only found here in the US, so you will have to find a place that

will ship to you. 1st Chinese Herbs is a good place to get all the herbs,

however they do not ship overseas, so that won't work for you.

Otherwise, your selected herbal regimen is good. You might even add in

Devils' Claw. I find that the best one for vision problems. Even though Buhner

doesn't recommend it for that.

Hi all.

I am from the UK and have been ill for about 3-4 years now. I was

bitten by a tick in Kent, England while camping in August 2002 and

developed very mild symptoms (I didn't know TBD's existed and I wasn't

warned, even though the tick was removed at the doctors surgery!). I

generally felt quite tired with light sensivitity, but the symptoms

were very mild and I didn't even go to the doctors.

In November 2003 I became very ill. I had migrating pains all over,

shooting pains, severe light sensivity, severe fatigue, noise

sensitivity, chest pains, heart palpitations, chills, vertigo, panic

attacks, headaches, joint pains, muscles pains and MANY more symptoms.

I was diagnosed with M.E/CFS and offered anti depressants(I

declined!). I only had routine blood tests done, no other investigations.

Before the tick bite, I was 100% healthy all my life. I honestly

cannot remember a day when I was really ill. I had maybe a cold each

year, but that's it. I can't even ever remember having the flu. My

family is/was also very healthy with no history of illness.

I eventually found out about Lyme and found Dr. AW in England, who

diagnosed me with borreliosis.

I tried taking Samento, and it completely knocked me out. I was

incredibly ill. I was having panic attacks almost 24/7 and I was a

complete mess. I had heart palpitiations and new symptoms arrived.

They got so bad that I was taken into hospital for a week and I

honestly thought I was going to die.

Since then I was too scared to start Samento again and Dr. AW put me

on loads of supplements to try and build me up, and these greatly helped.

Since stopping the Samento, new symptoms have arrived, mostly visual

disturbances ( floaters, halo's around lights, fuzzy vision, etc ) I

am not sure if these were caused by Samento of if the Samento just

stirred up the bugs.

I then started Oxytetracycline and continued to improve to about 50+%.

After 6 months I stopped improving and herxing and I knew I needed a

change of antibiotics. I was tried on Ciprofloxacin and NAC alongside

the Oxy incase I had other infections like CPn, but these made no

difference. Untill about 3 months ago when I had a nasty relapse and I

feel awful again. I am now houndbound again.

My LLMD has now changed my regime to: Doxy for 2 weeks then, Amoxi for

2 weeks then, Tinidazole for 2 weeks, then a 2 week break.

I have just finished the first course of this reigme and have herxed

immensely, so I think Lyme is still a big issue for me.

I do think that I need to do more to recover from this illness. At the

moment I just take the antibiotics and a few supplements.

I would like to try and do more excercise, have lympathic drainage

massages, detox baths, good diet and also start using the Buhner

protocol alongside the antibiotics.

I bought the Healing Lyme book about 8 months ago and was very

interested, but I was taking in too much info at once and it was sadly

pushed to one side.

I would like to use the following from the Buhner protocol:

Andrographis

Japanese Knotweed ( I found some in my garden earlier! )

Cat's Claw ( I am very nervous about taking this again )

Smilax

Stephania root ( for visual problems )

Does anyone know the best place to buy these herbs from? They need to

be able to deliver to the UK.

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Chris

Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time.

You can order all of these herbs from Kingham Herbs and Tinctures,

01608 659600. They can encapsulate them for an extra charge of £5

per herb per 1000. I found them very helpful and they offered a good

service.

Its a really good idea to go really slow when starting them, maybe

start with the Andro 1 capsule daily and then build up. Jim has

posted some excellent info on how to proceed, maybe do a search

on " Ramping up too fast " and you should be able to find his post.

Best Wishes

Pam

>Hello

Welcome here. I am also from the UK and there are one or 2 other Brits

here too.

I have been ill for many years and like you was diagnosed with ME;

your symptoms are all too familiar, as is the practice of only having

routine blood tests done: I have always been frustrated that no

investigations take place on the NHS for ongoing viral or bacterial

infections. Since I don't remember a tick bite or bull's eye rash, I

only suspected Lyme disease recently and Dr O. from Cardiff arranged

for me to have Igenex tests, one of which [the PCR: they found DNA of

borrelia b.] was positive.

I took 3 months of Doxy [+Diflucan] and started Buhner's core

protocol + smilax and eleuthero alongside the abx and other

supplements.4 months on, I am feeling better on herbs alone [ + my new

KMT machine from USA] than with the abx, but have not decided what

this means yet! ie. the jury is out!

You can get some herbs from the Nutri Centre [www.nutricentre.com] and

from Pukka herbs, but I now get mine in quantity from iherb.com in

USA, and have DHL deliver [ takes2 or 3 days only]. You do end up

paying through the nose for delivery, customs and handling, but it

still works out cheaper when you are on full dose.

Many people here buy the whole herbs and encapsulate them themselves

[see lots of threads on this subject in past messages].

I would recommend buying your first herbs in England in small

quantities, so that you can gradually build up the doses and check

that you aren't intolerant of any of them before ordering in bulk.

Good luck with the protocol and the Ld in general,

Carolyn

PS Is there nothing more DR AW can do to advise? I was considering

going to see him at some point, despite the geography [ I live in the

Cotwolds].

>Pam,

I was really interested in what you said about Kingham Herbs and will

definitely consider getting the herbs from them if they are reasonable

and will encapsulate. Are they aware of the Buhner protocol then and

do they by chance stock red root, do you know? Hopefully they are a

cheaper option and actually are only three quarters of an hour from

me, I see, in Chipping Norton.

Thanks for the info,

Hi Carolyn

I spoke to them about 's book and they seem very interested. I

haven't asked them about Red Root though.

They offered a great service, got all the herbs through in 2 days from

order.

Thanks for all the replies to this topic, they have been very helpful.

I forgot to mention in my first post that I have had the following

Lyme tests done:

Igenex IgM and IgG western blot - IgG was postitive by Igenex critera,

but not by CDC (because CDC don't include bands 31 and 34, which were

positive in my case).

Bowen Q-RIBb - positive 1:64, coinfections negative.

Immunosciences Lyme panel - didn't show much with their antibody test,

but Lyme specific cytokines were sky high, coinfections were negative.

LTT-MELISA test in Germany - 2 of the 4 antigens to Lyme were

positive, western blots were negative though, but I think the european

critera still does not include 31 and 34.

I haven't been tested for any other infections, only Lyme and

coinfections.

I would really like to start Smilax, Stephania root and Devils claw

first, before I start the core protocol. I have ordered Devils Claw

yesterday and I think I will order the Sarsaparilla from the UK

company to start with (is tincture best, or capsules?).

I can't seem to find Stephania root anywhere in the UK and I have been

told it is apparently banned in Europe!

I can't find it on Iherb either, so I think I will need to buy it from

1st chinese herbs, but where can I buy the empty capsules to put it in?

Also, if I do take a tincture, would it be OK to take it with

Tinidazole? I am not allowed any alcohol with tini.

Is Cats Claw really important in this protocol? I don't know if I have

the guts to take it again!

I saw you mentioned you found Japanese knot weed in your garden. I also saw

this herb mentioned under common weeds growing in America. I did not get to

see any pictures of it though. Anyone know if you can grow this yourself?

Any seed sources or pictures of what it looks like?

Chris:

I would take the Sarsaparilla in capsules and as a matter of fact that is

what I do. Especially if you can't have any alcohol.

I don't know HOW you will get 1st Chinese to send you herbs. I don't know

if it is too much of a hassle for them to or what, but they don't seem to want

to ship internationally.

You can get the empty capsules and machines from either WonderLabs.com or

from StarWest Botanicals here in the states. WonderLabs is a little cheaper.

Don't know WHAT their policy is on overseas shipments. IF you can get from 1st

Chinese, I would get the Red Root, also, but you need to make that into a

tincture, so there is THAT problem again. I have not tried to encapsulte it.

Would have to ask Buhner.

Thanks, I will have to try it. My blurred vision comes mostly when I have been

at the computer for many hours like today/tonight.

But doesn't hurt to try it.

>Hi,

If you're in any doubt about the alcohol, go with capsules.

As for cat's claw, you could try leaving it till last, starting each

new herb one at a time for a week or so, so that you know the culprit

if you have any intolerances.Perhaps you'll be able to tolerate it at

very low dosage??

Obviously cat's claw does work in several ways in Lyme, but SB usually

advises people to continue with the other herbs if one of them causes

them problems.

I think here in Britain it is quite common. If you do a google search

for it most people are trying to get rid of it, because it spreads so

easily.

I will try and get a picture of it if I can sometime and I will post

it on here.
