Guest guest
Am not Dana, but I met Reid at the ADAA conference last year. He is knowedgeable and has written about OCD. He was very down to earth and easy to talk to. Believe he is based in North Carolina. jim in san diego jjmcf@...
Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Reid co-wrote " Stop Obsessing " with Edna Foa. He's very, very good. My husband has worked with him too. It just occurred to me that I should call him and ask him to refer someone for Ava's TTM (Trichotillomania). I don't know why I haven't thought of him as a resource for finding a doc in this area before! I'll ask him about the new one I have an appointment with too. Boy am I glad you asked that question. The nail biting could be an MSI - a mildly self injurious behavior. There is a list called " Pickaderms " for people who skin pick and I've been reading about it. Lots of people bite or pick their nails (including me) some do it in a way that can be pretty destructive. Ava has always been a skin picker, less so after her work with Reid, less still since she's discovered hair pulling. And you're right - no one here knows how to drive in snow and ice. I grew up in Chicago and then lived in Boston for 10 years but I pretend to be ignorant like the rest - no way do I want people calling me to do anything like work or errands because I can drive! I'm staying home in my jammies until it all melts! Dana in NC Kathy wrote: > From: " Kathy " <klr@...> > > Hi Dana, who is Reid ? Guest guest
Jim, He really is a great guy isn't he? I was amazed at how skillfully he got Ava to talk and reveal so much stuff while he was creating a heirarchy with her. I didn't even realize what he was doing was CBT until I read people's posts that described heirarchies. He is very sweet and gentle. Ava decided she hated him because he was too gross, talked about gross stuff like " do you eat your scabs or boogers " . She was only 9 at the time but even adults with OCD sometimes act like the stuff they do is ok but the stuff others do is weird. He was quite amused by her dislike for him based on his questions; he has a great sense of humor. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I just spoke to the long-lost Reid. He was in Penna, without a phone or computer, but just recently returned to NJ. He got a new email address & promises to be in touch with all of us very soon. I told him how so many of you were asking about him. Hugs, a Aida
