Same here. I was dx in August of 1999 by my old PCP with " slightly low

thyroid level " and a high cholesterol level, but he didn't want to put me on

any meds " just yet. " (I stopped seeing this doc because he wanted to

overload me with vitamins and supplements) In Dec of that year, I got a

definitive Lyme dx by a greaqt LLMD in Boston. According to him, it was a

good thing I didn't take all those vitamins :)

Shame on me, but I never got re-tested for hypothyroidism (or high cholest.)

after 6 months like I should have. I was a new mom, and my old doc said that

was probably the reason for the thyroid tweak. Anyhow, I packed on the

weight like you wouldn't believe- went from a pre-preg size 6 (muscular,

played hockey twice a week) to an abysmal size 20. Mind you, I'm only 5'2 " .

I was on Tetracycline 500mg 3X a day for Lyme, and that made me gain 40lbs in

3 months. OMG, it was insane! It has been harder on my Lyme-arthritic

joints and I literally cannot do conventional exercise, so the weight gain

has been a vicious circle :( It has made me depressed and anxious about even

leaving my house.

Now I want to find a new PCP to get re-tested. I hope one of you can help me

find one in the Nashua, NH area. My LLMD, Dr. D in Boston, isn't able to be

selected as a PCP by my health plan (Tufts), and I really couldn't afford to

pay out of pocket to see him too often- plus his wait-list is about 3 months

long, LOL.

So, if anyone on this list knows a LLMD in southern NH who is taking new

patients (as a PCP), or even just a doc who is open to listening about Lyme

symptoms, please e-mail me privately.

Also, I think I recall reading some abstracts sent to this list in the past

year about correlations between Lyme & Thyroid problems, and some links about

nutritional supplements for the condition in lieu of traditional meds (T3 et

al). I'd like to peruse them again if anyone has links handy. When I get

some free time later, I will look for them, too.

Take care everyone!

Wow, Dianna- that is a very interesting website!!! I've had low body temp

for years, but just thought it was normal for me. Along with most of those

other symptoms... who knows if it is all from the Lyme, or could be from

's too? Ugh...LOL!

Hi Hillary-

I don't qualify for that since I do have insurance. My problem was that my

old PCP wouldn't give me a referral to DR. D, and so I went to him thinking

I'd have to pay out-of-pocket. He didn't charge me for my 2 visits, but I

just can't take advantage of that.

I need a PCP (Tufts Health Plan) in NH who WILL give me a referral to see DR.

D. I haven't been able to find one.

Jules-

I also go to Dr. D, and for about 6 months last year,

I had a lapse in my health insurance. I kept one of my

appointments with Dr. D, figuring I would just have to

pay whatever it cost, and when I went to register, and

spoke with the lady about my insurance issue, she

Jules,

Is it possible for you to get a copy of the contract between your doc and

Tufts? You may be able to prove poor faith or conspiracy to deny benefits.
