What have you heard/read about conception after abx? My LLMD doesn't think

there would be any problem, but I'd like to hear others' opinions.

I delivered my baby in March of 99, while I had chronic Lyme, but didn't know

I had it. He was fine (I haven't been healthy since), but I had a very early

miscarriage a year before I conceived him. I realize they are common

normally...but I wonder. My doc at the time said it was because my body

overheated while playing hockey (umm...ok) but in retrospect, I remember

having excruciating joint swelling and numbness in my face at that time.

Which happened every so often- my LLMD thinks I've had Lyme for about 20

years- but always worsened in synch with my menstrual cycle.

I'd like to have another child after a few years, but for now I have 18+

months of abx to deal with.

Eileen-

I'm so sorry your little girl has LD! That is one of our biggest concerns.

Since our baby's 19 months now, he's getting to the age where he can tell me

if something hurts. My LLMD wants to test him when he's a bit older, I don't

know why we have to wait...Thanks for the info about symptoms that may go

unnoticed- he had a fever of 103.5 a few weeks back, but just for an evening!

It was so weird, but I thought it was from a vaccine he got 7 days earlier.

Other than that fever, he has never been sick- not even a runny nose, so I'll

keep my fingers crossed.

Dear Jules,

Not trying to scare you, but my daughter, born with gestational LD, didn't

have

symptoms until she was 2 1/2 - 3. And they were very mild---mild enough for me

to

ignore.

She was diagnosed by me at 4 1/2, after I started reading a lot (I had been

diagnosed 2

months earlier). Belly aches, headaches, fevers that didn't last long and

weren't

followed by a runny nose or ear infection, and complaints of hip pain were her

history.

Nothing slowed her down much; her fevers would keep her down for a day or two

and then

she'd be back to normal. She was diagnosed with a congenital cataract and optic

nerve

atrophy at age 3 1/2.

Dear ,

My girlfriend took amoxicillin after a miscarriage (finally believed that

she had LD

and followed me to my doctors) and during her 2 pregnancies and has 2 children

~18 mos &

8 mos that were healthy the last time I spoke to her.

Dear Jules,

So far, all is well with her children. A while ago I saw that the Lyme

Alliance was

conducting a survey of mothers with LD comparing the results of their children

if not

taking AB's during pregnancy & taking AB's during pregnancy, and it led me to

believe

that infection can occur even if on antibiotics. But this is just supposition on

my

case. I haven't seen anything about their results. They were looking for case

Dear Jules,

I thank God every day that we are as well as we are, even though I'm

considered

totally disabled. could have been much worse so I consider myself blessed.

She has

been on 2 antibiotics for over 2 years and is mostly symptom free. Her LLMD

stopped the

AB's twice and both times she relapsed within 3 weeks. She's active and doing

well in

school and happy. She just hates wearing the patch on her glasses 2 hours/day to

treat

the amblyopia (lazy eye) that she developed because of the cataract occluding

vision in

the one eye.

Her vision in the " bad " eye is between 20/40 and 20/50 with her glasses and we

started

at 20/400 prior to the surgery. So, as I said, we have been blessed.

Eileen, I'm sorry about your daughter having lymes disease. I am worried about 2 of my children of witch I had when I had Lymes, but I did'nt know I had it. One of my son's is having speach problems, and they say he has poor muscle tone, and also fine mottor skills. I am worried that he could have contracted it from me. He is allmost 4 years old. I have had them both tested and the results were neg., but that does'nt mean much. I tested neg. for a long time to. I am gonna take him to a neurologist soon. Take care, Kim S. in N.Y.

There is a great book called " Everything you Need to Know about LD " by

Vanderhoof-Forschner and it explains it all.

It is believed that if one is pregnant, not being treated w/ antibiotics,

that the spirochetes can be passed by blood. The results of the child will

not show to be obvious at first. This has happened to many that I know. My

best friend was bit when she was 12 (she now remembers). She was bit again in

1990 after having health problems all her life. Not major but mono as a teen,

bad sore throats, aches and pains, etc. All 3 of her children are positive

for lyme now. It seems to be w/ babies the fussiness, breathing problems...as

they get older, asthma, ADD, ADHD, headaches, stomach aches.

***THIS IS FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE and from many, many others over the

last 2 yrs. on the internet that have written me.***

When they are teens, it turns more to mood swings (above and beyond

'normal'), anger outbursts, argumentative, headaches, low grade temps.,

fatigue and there grades go down in school. ( I have 2 kids like this). They

have difficulty learning, can't concentrate and are labeled as " they just

don't like school " .

Have you had the LUAT done on your children. Both of my girls came up

neg on three blood test according to the cdc here in ga.When I took them to

a LLMD in ala. both had specific bands which ga does not report(they only

say pos or neg basically) and both were pos on the LUAT.We are all receiving

treatment and doing much better.Docs here said neg was neg-don't accept it

if you believe otherwise.Janet

Dear Janet,

I only have one child, and she didn't need a LUAT since she had 6 out of the

10 CDC

significant bands on the Western Blot and had symptoms. No one ever said that

she didn't

have LD once she was tested. She has been on orals for over 2 years and is doing

very

well. Thanks.

Dear Jules,

That's what kills me about this silent epidemic--what it is doing to

children. I was

interviewed at the Hotel Pierre rally in June and that was how I ended my

interview. I

don't know what actually made it to national TV as I never saw it, but I did

voice my

concern about the children of this country.

Does Ian have symptoms? I've forgotten how old he is. I think 's LLMD

waits for

symptoms, but if you insist, yours should do the test. Let me know what happens.

I don't

know what BIBA is. I know there's a new test at BBI labs, but I don't know what

it is

called. I'm going to the LDA conference in Princeton on Nov. 4 as the focus is

on Lyme

in children and adolescents. I watch my daughter like a hawk and I want to know

what

else to look for.

Dear Jules,

A pediatric LLMD is compiling case reports of gestational Lyme. I don't know

when it

will be available, but he's doing it. I did a search 3 years ago and came across

the

article that mentioned optic nerve atrophy as a complication. That's what helped

clue me

in to my daughter being infected. I don't know what I did with the article--I

believe I

saw it referenced in another article in the hospital library. There wasn't much

to it,

as I recall. Just 2 pages.

It is called the C6-LPE, website www.bbii.com. My son just had it done, was

previously dxd w/ lyme, positive. This test just came back neg. I am

skeptical and my opinion at this time is to stick w/ Igenex and the PCR blood

test for lyme and the co-infections.

No, no symptoms that I can see. He's 19 months. Then again, if all he knows

is joint pain, how would he know that it isn't " normal, " KWIM? Yes, I think

I will insist my LLMD test him.

I contracted Lyme disease within the first month of my pregnancy. My

daughter

passed away during the 6th month of my pregnancy. My Lyme caused her to have

too many 'complications' to survive.

My Lyme was diagnosed after my daughters death...in testing to determine why

she had passed.

Dear Jules,

How dumb of me! Of course he wouldn't know it's not normal. My daughter knew

that

she couldn't see out of her left eye but she never told us because she thought

that was

normal! We found out after her diagnosis of a congenital cataract. What does

KWIM mean?
