I don't qualify for ssi because I get workers comp from when my husband died on the job. And in regarding the ssdi - as of the beginning of 2006 - I haven't worked the 5 out of the 10 years that are required. That's why I need my doc to say that I was not able to work between 2003 (when I developed the ra) and 2005 - the cut off time for the number of years working. I do have good news - hopefully it will last and go permanent -I got a job! I started this week - it's a great office- very nice people. It's currently a temp job but may go permanent. I really hope it does. I enjoy the work and the people. It's a little farther to drive than I would prefer but I'd rather work there than at a place where the people are not as nice. It does hurt my hand quite a bit - especially having to take notes for the job. An sometimes, my back starts to hurt and my legs get achey and restless but so far I can tolerate it. Wish me luck! An attorney will not usually handle your case until you've been turned down three times and also the attorney must see that you have a reasonable chance to get SSI. There is a difference between SSI and SSDI. Have you worked enough quarters to get SSDI? I got mine exactly six months after I quit

working. SSI is for people who do not have enough quarters of work to qualify for SSDI. SSI is a 'poverty' based program, while SSDI is an insurance program that we pay into when we work. I'd like to hear more specifics if you care to share. I'm not an expert nor do I pretend to be. Just might be able to help. Dew, new
