I asked Dr. Bihari about taking another MRI several months ago. He

didn't see any point. For example, I could still have the same number

of white spots, yet feel better or worse. What's important is how

you're doing in your everyday life.

But of course I wish everyone picture-perfect MRI's!

> Cool , but could even that drown out that knocking ? LOL

Nope, and you can't even hear the music while it's doing its thing :)

You'd think with all the technology involved in an mri machine

that it wouldn't sound like a cheap washing machine with an unbalanced

load :)

I've been told you are not even supposed wear your HEARING AIDS in the same

room as

an operating MRI scanner.

So, , is it safe to say if the magnet remains in the skull, that the

strong magnetic

field of the MRI will possibly pull out or realign the electrodes in the

cochlea? I've heard

this is the reason.

I'm to have a full body PET Scan next week since I'm a five-year breast cancer

survivor.

This is similar to a CT Scan and I will be okay, magnet and all. And hopefully

it will show

none of those nasty little cancer cells lurking.

, do you mean that YOU can remove your magnet or does a surgeon have to

remove

it as they would mine? Your statement wasn't quite clear to me.

So you are saying the only reason for removing the magnet, is that it will

become

demagnetized. In that case, I imagine, the magnet could be replaced and no harm

done

(except for $).

Judy, all, not only can you not wear your HA in the MRI room, you can't have

even the smallest bit of metal object on your person. When I was in the room

getting ready for my MRI pre-CI surgery, I had an interesting discussion with

the technician...it seems that the number and type of injuries, not to mention

cost of damage to the machine, are not tracked well and there are an awful lot

of horrible incidents that occur thanks to a paper clip, or a coin, small as

well as large objects causing damage to humans and machines. That's why they ask

you umpteen times if you have removed all metal objects before letting you walk

into the MRI room. Serious business.

Judy, all the best with your PET scan next week.

Deb,

Was not true when I had mine done in 2000. They let me keep my belt on.

LOL Actually, the next time, I will remove it. It was not magnetic but I

could feel the MRI acting on it. Weird feeling.

Have ehard some good ones too, like a cop's gun? Sheesh. could

probably find the links to the big stories.

Talk about scary, before I got my CI I had an MRI, I was in the

machine and everything, all of a sudden they pulled me out and asked

if I was sure I removed all metal and of course I said yes, come to

find out the elastic ponytail holder I had in my hair evidently had

metal particles in it. Never would have known it, it looked like a

cotton band to me.
