Guest guest
My daughter's been dxd with lyme and babesiosis which she's probably had for the last fourteen years. Every spring and early summer she gets these high fevers that last anywhere from a week to two or three. She's been running 103+ off and on since Sunday night complaining of a slight sore throat and headache, which is the usual with these fevers. She also has alternating chills and sweats according to whether the fever is spiking or going down with aspirin or advil. The thing is .. I've had lyme for 9 years and never have had fevers like this, nor has anyone else I know. So I'm just wondering, does anyone know anyone who has this kind of pattern? She's not on antibiotics but I'm going to call the LLMD tomorrow. It's also hard because I'm in VA and she's in NY. Think I'm going to have to drive up for Lobby Day a little early..like tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas about this? It always sounds like malaria to me..but what do I know. Does anyone with Babesiosis have these kinds of cyclical fevers? Ehrlichiosis? Thanks. Guest guest
Lainie, Your daughter and my grandson have the same sx. The fevers, chills, etc. His eyes get glassy and, sometimes, his face gets red. My experience w/Malaria was that severe afternoon vomiting resulted in the loss of a pound a day and the english language has no word for the severity of malarial "chills". Rita atthelake@... Guest guest
hi Rita- Thanks for responding. My daughter also has a lot of flushing and reaction to internal as well as external temperature changes. Does your grandson have a diagnosis? Thanks. Lainie Re: [ ] Does anyone know about fevers? Guest guest
Pepi- My daughter has the flushing, too. Sometimes, her cheeks get so red it's hard to believe. Her hands and feet will also turn red, almost purple, after a temperature change like a shower. Has anyone suggested these symptoms, especially the fevers, are associated with any one of the infections specifically? Lainie Re: [ ] Does anyone know about fevers? Guest guest
Dear Lainie, It is my understand that high fever is likely ehrlichia; chills, sweating (malaria-like sxs) is most likely babeisa... THis is what docs have told us. (Babesia is a smaller protazoa than, but similar to malaria; sub-clinical or milder sxs than malaria.) Docs told us good idea to take milk thistle to support liver, as babesia loves liver tissue. (Check with your docs - I'm not a doc or other health care professional - just sharing what we were told & found to be helpful.) Hope this is helpful! Guest guest
I still get MILD fevers, chills, and flushing of the face as if I am sunburned with sunglasses on. Just routine now for me getting used to it, afterwards I get very tired and need to nap for 1-2 hrs. -
Guest guest
My daughter's fevers are high 101-104, and usually come for several days to weeks near spring. She is exhausted for weeks when these episodes come. She has been dxd with lyme and babesiosis. I don't think she was tested for anything else. What diagnosis does your grandson have Rita? What about you, ? Thanks. Guest guest
I have only been tested for lyme disease, never anything else. Maybe depending on my PCR and or w/b I can talk my rheumatologist into requesting one of those tests. But from the symptoms I have read on them I though you could get an inkling on one through a normal cbc with the high wbc low rbc etc???
