Guest guest
Has anyone here tried Minacycline (sp?)? I just heard from a woman who was very ill and her dr tried this. She is much better and has her life back. Her dr. said she may have to stay on it forever though. Thanks. Irene
Guest guest
My daughter has been on Minocycline for a year now along with Zithromax and she is almost 100%. The Mino was given for her arthritic symptoms which are now resolved.
Guest guest
I tried this for a couple of weeks but stopped because I fell over something and ended up black and blue. This was because the med made me dizzy, nauseated, and hungry all the time. Well, just the dizziness made me stop. It did definitely help with my joints, more so than rocephin. Doxycycline also helped with joints but made me very prone to sunburn. I have some doubts about this group of antibiotics because they are bacteriostatic, not bateriocidal, and I know several people that are helped by it but relapse right away after stopping. This is after years of taking it. My feeling (not a doc) is that it might work better combined with something else, like a macroclide. I understand that tetracycline type drugs are not combined with cephalosporins. That's what my pill book says and I think Dr. B's guidelines as well. > Has anyone here tried Minacycline (sp?)? Guest guest
The roadback article was one of the most interesting I've read in a long time. The ability to test to determine whether you are having a herz, allergic reaction or a flare was amazing and logical. Thanks, Irene

Irene, There've been a few studies done (one Italian, that I can think of, off the top of my head) on the use of Minocin for Lyme. I recently started using it (brand name only, by Lederle) along w/ occasional Cleocin, and am back to making progress again for my Lyme + babesiosis (ehrlichiosis seems to be under control). There's an interesting protocol published, too, about this combo - for arthritis, lupus, etc - at www.roadback.org. Guest guest
Irene, I would like to read that study. Can you tell me where I can find it? thanks elizabeth In a message dated 4/20/01 3:33:13 AM Eastern Daylight Time, renier1@... writes: I also just read a study by a LLMD of a friend of mine who used minocycline on her and still is. Guest guest
The article is: Minocycline in Lyme Disease by B. Liegner, MD, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Vol. 26, No. 2, pp. 263-264, February 1992. Irene

Sorry to hear you had that experience - mine was quite good, with several people from that group contacting me w/options. But group concerns aside, the Brown protocol's been around a while and has apparently helped many. Guest guest
The Cleocin (clindamycin) / Minocin protocol isn't specifically for Lyme, but other arthritic conditions. Some of the documents are only available at that site by downloading .pdf files. There's some comments about it, and suggested medications, too, at www.mercola.com, I think.
