Guest guest
When ALA gets into the body it is quickly converted to DHLA which has 2 thiol groups. The thiols are attracted to the mercury and 2 of them can hang on to pull the mercury out. ALA can readily cross the BBB and into organs, so can pull the mercury from the brain and organs. ALA must be dosed at 3h intervals or more frequently in order to get a net movement of mercury out. DMPS and DMSA both have 2 thiol groups, so can hold onto the mercury and take it out of the body, but they do not cross the BBB. They are good accessory chelators to use with ALA. People often report that chelating with a combination of DMPS or DMSA and ALA gives less side effects than ALA alone, although this is not always the case. DMPS must be dosed at 8h intervals or more frequently and DMSA must be dosed at 4h intervals or more frequently.
