Good news, ! It sounds as if your physicians will be taking very good

care of you and have done their best to explain the possibilities and

reassure you.

Try not to worry. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and uncomplicated

What do you want? Do whatever is best for you. I hope the weight of the baby as it grows doesnt put undue strain on your pelvis. Good luck. Deborah

Thanks for posting, . I just learned 2 weeks ago that I have Gestational

Diabetes, which puts you at a higher risk for a C-section, but my doctors say

they are not necessarily going to do one, its not their standard practice for

GD.

Although women I know who have had a C-section say it is not too bad and

they wish it had been offered to them earlier in their labor!

I would also try to eat a healthy diet, , and try to keep your weight

down. I was doing well before but now that I have GD I am forced to eat

healthy!

Ardeith writes: Yep......my step-daughter had Juvenile RA.....and her

pelvis was fused....could not open up enough to birth her baby. To make

everything even duckier....the baby was breech. She had a really stupid OB

who let her labor for so many hours the baby's hip was dislocated....then

did a C-section. She was devastated by the thought that she had hurt her

baby, and it took a lot of talking to her before she came around to

understand that it was not her fault, but the fault of the stupid OB who

knew going in that her pelvis could NOT dilate

wrote about her husband: i think he forgets that just bcuz i have

artifical parts doesnt make me any less of a woman, i was born a woman, and

women give

birth everyday. anyway, i knew some of you wanted to know what my docs

said, and i will keep you posted on anything that comes up.

Ardeith writes: Yes, you are a woman, plastic hips and all......being a

woman is not about what your hip joint is made of.......and, sweetie, I've

got news for you....it's not about being able to do a vaginal birth either.

I don't know if there is any way for your RA doctor to determine if your

pelvic area is fused or not....you should ask. It's not your hips that are

the problem here.....it's whether your pelvis can spread apart.

The RA doctor knew my step-daughter's pelvis was fused before she even got

pregnant......I think they had done a series of x-rays several months before

and she decided to get pregnant anyway. She wanted a baby more than

anything else in the world and didn't have problems with the

pregnancy......she didn't even have any stretch marks after!! Her husband

claimed that was because of the cocoa- butter he massaged her belly with

every night. LOL.

Her RA doctor told her she would have to have a C-section.....and told her

OB... but the OB-idiot didn't listen very well. There are many " real "

women in this world who could not deliver a baby vaginally for whatever

reason.....and it's far better to end up with a healthy baby and a healthy

mommy even if a C-section is what it takes. Yeah, women give birth every

day, and have for generations, and a lot of women and babies also died in

the process. We have the ability today to save the lives of women and their

babies.....real women and real babies......so don't get hung up on the idea

that you must do a vaginal birth to be a 'real' woman.....just being able to

conceive a child already proved that......

Talk to your RA doctor again.....find out if he can determine whether your

pelvis is fused or if it can flex enough for a birth........and if he says

it won't flex or open enough, don't be foolish.....go with the

C-section......and maybe you will post a pic of your baby after?

I think what Ardeith says stresses the importance of finding a doctor/practice

who takes care of women with RA and issues similar to yours.

Hi :

Thanks for the update! You are right, you are 100%

woman, and you will do just fine - I just hope hubby

is up to the challenge! Keep letting us know how you

are doing - several years back we had another member,

named Heidi, and she was pregnant for the first time,

and new to RA, and she kept us updated with news of

her pregnancy, all the ups and downs, and she had a

beautiful baby boy. It was like we were all aunts and

uncles to Fabien. As a matter of fact, I believe last

time she wrote us a few months ago, she was pregnant

again! Hang in there -
