Guest guest
Hi , I'd keep looking for a different dr. if you don't like how you're being treated. Finding a good dr. that you " click " with is very beneficial with your treatment. Guest guest
- I'm overweight too and 47 (I've had ra since '03) and my prednisone put 25 additional lbs on me. I'm currently doing the south beach diet - I've lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks. It's going slower for me this time around than when I tried it last year. But at least it's coming off and my bf is doing it with me and that helps alot! It's hard to diet when your partner/kids aren't. I don't have insurance either so I'm on the cheapest meds. Ask the doc about putting you on methotrexate - the injectionable liquid - but you don't have to inject it. Just use the syringe to draw out the med from the vial and squirt into a tablespoon or so of water and drink it (you can use the syringe multiple times as long as your not injecting it into yourself). The vial costs me about $26.00 and lasts about 3 months. I'm on 0.8 cc's - once per week. I also take prednisone 5mg twice a day - that costs me $12.00 per month and 1mg of folic acid a day (protects your liver) and that costs me $10 per month. I also take 2 aleve or generic naproxen sodium twice per day ( I use the store brand). Hope this helps with your med costs. Guest guest
Have you considered that with RA and your weight problems, you might me a candidate for SSI. If the SS office disables you then you will also qualify for Medicaid and you can get the help you need. I'm pretty sure there are people on this group that can help you with the SSI office in your state. I do know that with my Mom we went to the Social Security office and applied for SS disability. She took the name, address and phone numbers of her doctors. The office helped her fill out the forms and she had a phone interview. I think it took her a month or two before she got it. She was lucky, sometimes it takes a year or more. Guest guest
Kelli, How awful is the needle poke? Somewhat like the needle when you have blood taken or more like the needle when you get a shot? I have to have blood checks every two- three weeks since 2003 and I absolutely hate needles! JMKelli <psichikel@...> wrote: Hey Nadine, Kelli here...glad to see you chose Dr. A. You won't be sorry, he is a great guy and has a wonderful team. You'll be amazed at the care you will receive there, I mean you have a hard time finding that type of care here. As for Fluro, that is the xray machine that they use, you drink barium fluid and they are able to watch the band. Be prepared cause the barium, is icky!!! It's like drinking chalk, if you go to my photo album you'll see a picture with me getting a fill...take a look at the face!!! The reason why many want to have their fills done using Fluro, is because it is easier to locate the port, if your doctor is not experienced enough they will have a hard time finding the port which means lots of pokes with needles. Most everyone gets their surgery done Laproscopically, I think there's only rare cases now that have to have the surgery done open. Anywho, if there are any more questions you need to have answered feel free to post here or you can email anyone of us and we'll give ya the 411! Good Luck!!
