If you start experiencing symptoms again, then that is the time to begin treatment again. Sounds like you're in remission and hopefully it'll last a long time. Your body will tell you if you need to start taking meds again. Hope everything keeps going well for you!! dordale
Guest guest
I was started with Arava but took myself off it when my doctor added Methotrexate. I’ve never taken Sulfasalazine. I’ve never had any significant troubles with any medication. My uneducated opinion is that Arava takes a long time to build up in your system so I think it also takes a long time to leave your system. I think your doctor is trying a medication that usually has few side effects so it will keep RA at bay when the Arava stops doing its work. I think I would be inclined to take it and then if you don’t have a flare within about 3 months (while the Arava is leaving your system) then see about decreasing the Sulfasalazine assuming your doctor agrees. You might call the doctor’s office to see if my ideas have any merit. God bless. I saw the rheumy today. She examined my hands and said, " Beautiful. Can't even tell you have R.A. I'm not adverse to taking it if I need it or if it will prevent damage, but not so sure I want to bombard my liver and kidneys so soon after trouble with Arava if I'm in good shape... Guest guest
I was only on Arava for three weeks. I've been off it for 6. Guest guest
I switched to Sulfasalazine after I stopped taking methotraxate. I can't really tell that it's doing anything (no side effects at all) and my liver #s don't seem any more elevated then they were (they're always just above normal but nothing anyone is concered about). susanOn 7/13/06, snowdrift52003 <snowdrift52003@...> wrote: Hi, all. Guest guest
I have been on Sulfasazine for 6 years. It turns my urine the color of Mountain Dew. I have to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day to get my urine back to a normal color. (fortunately I work in an office). However, by the time it gets back to normal, it is time o take my evening dose. I haven't had any side effects for it. It does take about 8 weeks to notice a difference, and I noticed the biggest difference when I stopped taking it a few years ago. Take care, Steph in VAsnowdrift52003 <snowdrift52003@...> wrote: Hi, all. I saw the rheumy today. She examined my hands and said, "Beautiful. Can't even tell you have R.A."
