Dan --

I think invoking the old days is perfect. Actually, a line from the

appropriately titled Who song, " Won't Get Fooled Again, " fits well

here -- " Meet the new boss/Same as the old boss. " The list has

pretty much stayed in the same condition as when you handed it over

to me. Why? Because the rules were good. Why re-invent the wheel?

Yes, it is true. This list has never in the past accepted forwards

and still does not nor will it in the future as long as I'm current

administrator. This prevents nasty chain letters as well as unwanted

files with questionable backgrounds. Also, the rule for posting

virus warnings is still in place and has not changed.

Thank you, Dan, for being the voice of reason.

Mods, can you ban this member? This is the fourth time this mail has come

through - I think it is a virus?

Normally I'd agree with you, but did that two days ago - obviously

didn't work - and can we be sure it's a valid member anyway?

I

Sue,

It is a virus.. it is best to notify the member rather than banning them.

Just a suggestion.

Umm, doesn't it have to be a valid member's address to post to the group anyway?

I have heard that has cleaned it out. I also don't think that we really

have much to worry about, as this group doesn't allow attachments.

a,

this is a clever little virus in that it is not even on the computers that

sent the emails, but piggybacking onto email messages from the servers

themselves. So even updating and re-running your virus scan won't help.

Trust me, I ran the update yesterday at 6pm, ran my scan from 6-7, came up

empty, then someone claimed I sent them an email with the virus at 8pm. So,

one the virus has someone's email address, from any computer anywhere, it is

going to appear that person is sending infected messages no matter what they

do. Unfortunately, this a problem has to fix, and there's nothing any

of us can do.

I use Gmail as I my mail server, and Google already anticipated the probem

and put protections in place. So any emails coming from me are stripped of

attachments, etc., before they enter the main cyber stream. So any

" alleged " emails someone may get from me have been added long after the

message left my computer, ISP, and then Gmail.
