Guest guest
I have moderate Asthma and the Methotrexate did not cause me any breathing problems. I have never tried Plaquenil. I did have a lot of other side effects from the Methotrexate. Stacey Gleason <gleasongirl76@...> wrote: I would like to hear from members of the group who have Asthma on top of RA. Guest guest
I don't have asthma, but do have interracial lung disease from RA. I took Plaqenil for almost two years and did not really have any side affects, my new doc just decided I need something stronger, in WI Gleason <gleasongirl76@...> wrote: I would like to hear from members of the group who have Asthma on top of RA. Guest guest
Hi Meliss, I have asthma. I was on Plaquenil, but only for a very short period of time. I have been on mtx for 3 months now. I don't know that it is doing much of anything to help my RA, and there are other side effects that I don't like, but it certainly hasn't made any difference in my asthma. OTOH, I am also still on prednisone, so I suppose that could be masking any asthma problems too. > > I would like to hear from members of the group who have Asthma on top of RA. Guest guest
RE: asthma and meds... My son had asthma from age 1. It was always poorly controlled, didn't respond very well to treatment. He had flares constantly. Fast forward to age 12. He suddenly can't walk, and soon is diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. We tried med after med, and finally, Enbrel offered significant relief. About the time that he was diagnosed with the spondy, his asthma doc decided to do another pulmonary function test, this time with diffusion capacity testing. Lo and behold, his diffusion capacity was 56 %, very low. Diffusion capacity is the ability of the alveoli in the lungs to let oxygen pass into the bloodstream, by way of the alveolar-capillary membrane. Anyway, since beginning Enbrel, we've had his diffusion capacity tested every year, and it has steadily risen. He is now up to 79 % ! His asthma rarely gives him problems. His pulmonologist and rheumatologist think that the ankylosing spondylitis was a big culprit with his asthma, causing inflammation in the alveolar capillary membrane. Since the Enbrel has decreased the inflammation, his asthma is rarely an issue any more. Now there are studies out about asthma and Enbrel, and docs are starting to use Enbrel in asthma patients. Just wanted to fill you in on our amazing journey! , adult onset RA, mom to Rob, 17, ankylosing spondylitis On Thu, 04 May 2006 11:23:11 -0000 " Randall" <karenrandall54@...> writes: Hi Meliss,I have asthma. Guest guest
HI, I also have interstitial lung disease an i was told by to seperate RA doctors that I should not take methotrexate b/c it would complicate the lung issue. Good luck Cookie > > I would like to hear from members of the group who have Asthma on top of RA. Guest guest
, I take all the same meds that you do. Except for Celebrex. I thank everyone for their comments. I was just thinking that Methotrexate threw me into an Asthma/Bronchitis flare up, but I guess not. thanks again everyone! in WV Forsythe Curran <DJ_Curran@...> wrote: I have had asthma for over 40 years and I currently take MTX and Humira, prednisone and Celebrex for my RA.
