Liz,

I had horrible asthma 2 springs before the onset of neurological

problems and suffered about the same for 2 years after the onset. All times

were bad enough that the inhalers didn't work and I ended up doing the

Medrol pack to get my asthma under control.

I called National Jewish Hospital (the premier asthma research center in

the world) and they were not familiar with any relationship between Lyme and

asthma. That doesn't mean there is none, way to many Lymies have severe

asthma for it to be coincidental.

There web site is: http://www.nationaljewish.org

and there phone number is: Contact Lung Line at 1-800-222-LUNG.

Let us know if you run anything down.

Larry NV

My youngest daughteras well as myself. Both of us have been on

meds/inhalers/nebulizer machine from time to time. Also had allergies all of

which seem to have disappeared with long Lyme treatment except for 1 or 2

small episodes a year.Steroids are not good for lymies but when faced with a

deminished immune system or dying from an asthma attack I'll take the first

and work harder to rebuild it.Love ya much Janet

Not sure it caused mine, but certainly made it MUCH worse

My LLMD agrees- I also use steroid based inhalers and also take Singulaire

When I get really bad nothing works except nebulizer. You may want to talk

to your doc about getting one.

I too am hampered by terrible coughing, and bring up mucus.......it is so

horrible at times, I throw up.

I too went to a specialist, and was dx with Exercise induced

asthma........(mind you it happens during the night, after any activity,

after eating, or not doing anything)

It has taken several years, but it seems that since I have had

Lyme.........my body is allergic to more things. Usually when I have one of

these coughing attacks........I can trace it to food, or chemical odors

(cleaning products).

I find as I eliminate these foods...........I cough less........ Connie

Leave no stone unturned.......

Sorry Ann,

I went to these sites.........found no information, that would explain the lyme/pulmonary connection......only products to buy..........under specifically - your name....

Sounds like a sales pitch to me. Connie

: I began my lyme illness with what my immunologist treating me thought

was an odd form of asthma. Also I couldn't catch my breath if I was in any

kind of reclining position for 3 days until they put me on a diazepam which

not only calmed me but dried up the secretions so I wasn't choking so badly.

But intermittent oral antibx and noone even mentioned lyme even though I had

just returned from Yosemite and Monterey area/Santa Cruz. That was over 4

years ago and 60 doctors/4 surgeries (mostly unnececessary) later.

Wonder if the lyme antibx, etc. will help you in time..

All the very best,

Donna

This is my personal story....

FIrst I want to say, YES, pulmonary IS part of lyme disease.

I started with severe allergies and was having asthma attacks the summer I

was bit. In the fall, I was really bad, allergist, inhalers, nebulizers, etc.

My sister, whom is a yr older started w/ allergies (never had them her whole

life), went into asthma, breathing difficulty. My mother had to see a

pulmonary specialist at Duke, still is; she has asthma, gets bronchitis (like

all of us). My 2 kids with lyme, many, many are having lung biopsies because

they are told " there is dark shadow, don't know what it is " . I can name AT

LEAST 32 people that I know this is happening to that have lyme. It is just

like cysts---they seem to be very common with lymies too. My mom had a huge

one in the middle of her back-drs. didn't know why. The woman who just passed

away today, her husband was just told he had a cyst on his pvts. so he has

prostate cancer. (remember I said lyme previous post). I can go on and on w/

stories but I think you all get the picture.

I am SURE I can come up w/ a website about pulmonary and lyme.

I'll share a lyme story of mine because I had the same symptoms you describe

and I was totally shocked by the treatment and outcome. I have been in

treatment for about 2 years with a very good LLMD and about 2 months ago I

began having identical symptoms to what you describe and it became gradually

worse and then it was accompanied by severe pleurosy and one morning I awoke

the pain was so severe I first thought I might be dying and before calling

the emergency room, I called my doctors office who fit me in immediatly and

to my suprise - my doctor discontinued the abx and put me on lamasil (not

sure of spelling) - for systemic yeast and I could not believe it but with

my first dose 90% of the symptoms were alleviated. I had to do the Lamosil

treatment for 10 days and then resumed anti-biotic therapy and am feeling

better than ever now. After about 3 days, all of the lung symptoms were gone

but I did the whole 10 day treatment. No idea at all if this could be

related to anything you are experiencing but it was so unusual, I wanted to

share it for information purposes. Also, like many others have reported on

the list ... after having Lyme for a few years I have developed the same

allergies etc ... to things that never used to bother me. I almost passed

out while trying to polish my nails several times. I have since switched to

chemical free 'natural' nail polish and many other natural sundries ....

*sigh* - probably better over all for the environment and myself anyways

(smile). Hope the info may be of some help and best wishes that you start

feeling better.
