Do UTI problems frequent RA patients? I have had a reaccuring

infection 3 or 4 times this year. My Rheumy seems concerned, but I

don't really know if it is related to the RA or the fact that I had

bladder reconstruction last year.

The way I see it is that our immune system

has gone haywire so some component of the immune system wants to attack our joints.

Even without medication our immune system is partially busy attacking our

joints so we are more likely to have a weaker resistance to any other

illness. It is even worse with our medications since they are intended to

weaken the immune system or some component of it. We have to be extra

careful to avoid infection and wash our hands often. Some people say that

UTIs and Candida infections are both more common with RA patients and also

harder to get rid of. I have heard that cranberry juice is supposed to be

good for the urinary tract so you could ask your doctors about that. I

hope you get things cleared up. I also try to eat yogurt with live

culture every day to help avoid infections. It might be like the

proverbial chicken soup that may not help but at least it will not hurt (or it

may actually help). God bless.

I have found this article very informative and use enzymes faithfully and they work very well for me for lessening severe flares and infections as well as digestion. It may help. Vitamin World makes a Multi Enzyme Formula that has everything on this list or close to it. I take Serrapeptase only when needed in a low dose of 10mg or up to 30 mg.

Seems like reconstruction is more likely. Keep a close eye on your diet and any medications that could cause irritatioin or reinfection. Flushing the kidneys is always a good idea. UTI's are miserable. Here is some info- http://www.hollywoodurology.com/uti.html
