To all:

I read many times people will stop meds when they are in a real bad herx

reaction. How can tell if the herx is to strong and when it is time to stop.

Do you feel your health is being threaten by these, or something might

happen bad?

Would really like to understand.

I cannot answer for others, but in my own case, I have felt so bad that I

thought that stopping abx would stop the herx. I would resume when I

started to feel better. I have also been known to stop taking abx for a

month or two, just so I could function as normal as possible when a special

event was coming up. Tomorrow is my five year anniversary of finding an

engorged tick in my scalp. In the last several months I have begun to feel

human again, maybe this is the end, I pray.

Marta,

I also have stopped meds., due to herxing under doctors orders. I don't really

understand why. Yes it causes pain, I have herxed to the point of not being able

to walk. But if herxing is the pain caused by the spyroceets, spelling is off,

dying then why not get pain meds., to control the pain. This could be a silly

question but it is one my husband and I have been wondering.

Hi Sheryl,

Depends on the amount of pain I guess, I see a pain management doctor

for mine. I have nerve damage mostly that was causing awful pain for so

long, my regular doctor did not want to give me strong pain meds. I

happened to be flipping through my HMO doctor book and found out that pain

doctors were covered and was very surprised. I have been going to him every

month for a year and a half, and I am quite pleased with the pain reduction.

True, all of it is worse during a herx, an exacerbation of all our symptoms,

right?

If it is the difference between functioning and being bed-ridden and

miserable, definitely go for the pain meds.

Everyone seems to be asking about herxing and flares and how do we tolerate

the pain and no pain meds. I for one cannot function when this happens and I

cannot go to work. If I cannot work, I have no money. There are times when

the pain is so bad I want to commit suicide and HAVE to stop the meds. I too

have asked for pain meds and I have been told it is too much for the liver. I

was finally given a combo of guafenasin and naprelan to take the edge off. So

I now take 100 mgs of ceftin all those pills to and only 500 of augmentin. As

soon as I even try to go a little higher the pains start to the point where I

go insane. I can't sleep either so what does one do? I had some darvocet of

my moms that I was taking but they are all gone too. I feel like a junkie I

take so many meds. I still think that a lot of it is an allergic reaction as

I read that augmentin causes joint pain although the dr. will not agree with

me. Who knows! KIM

Kim-

WHy not switch to Suprax or Vantin?? Excellent lyme meds....so is Zithromax,

Ceftin.

You don't have to be in that much pain,,,,,,,get the meds. adjusted. Also,

when you are herxing, take Molybdenum to help rid the body of toxins, this

will help. HAVE TO drink alot of water, alot!! Alot of pain from lyme also

is from inflammation so Advil helps, we take 3 at a time. Milk thistle is

excellent for cleansing the liver. These are all health food store stuff.

Kim,

Do you have any pain management specialists in your area? Would your

insurance cover it? You need to either change doctors or get your present

Doc to refer you to a pain doctor. Do you have specific liver problems that

prevent your doctor from rxing pain meds? No one should have to suffer when

there is help available. Nor should you feel like a junkie for taking meds

that help you.

Hi Marta,

My insurance pays for NOTHING!!!! I have plunked out about 12 thousand so far

if not more in the past 2 and one half years. My insurance would not pay for

this. I am sort of OK with the pain as long as I stay off certain meds, like

augmentin; then I really have pain. I know I should be taking all sorts of

homeopathic meds, but between the thyroid stuff, the high blood pressure, the

allergy pills, the AB's and all that I cannot swallow anymore. I guess my LL

doc is good, people come from all over to see him and I have been better it

is just recently the pain is back. So - I have just stopped the augmentin. I

see him again in a few weeks. I hate complaining as I know I am one of the

lucky ones - I can still walk. Thanks for your help. KIM
