Liz and group,

I'm a little behind in my reading but the information in this digest seems to

indicate htat the preferred dosage for early RA is 100mg twice daily of

Minocyclene. I have had RA for almost 30 years now and I would like to hear

what the reccomended dosage would be for me. At present, I am taking 100mg

MWF as per my doctor plus Methotrexate, 2 1/2mg pred, and celebrex. This

regimen has virtually stopped the progression of the arthritis (as long as I

don't do anything stupid like forget to take it:)

I'm a bit interested in hearing your doctor's explanation of why he

would give you minocycline and methotrexate at the same time. Sort of

opposing theories, wouldn't you say? Either can work, obviously the

view inthis group is that you are trying to squash those little

mycoplasma fellas and at the same time boost your immune system.

Methotrexate isn't really focused on squashing little bugs, but is

directed more towards suppressing your immune system from attacking

itself. So I wonder how the two can work together? I suspect your

doctor hasn't discussed the importance of boosting your immune system

along with taking the minocycline, has he? I know one of my earlier

doctors from the list here was opposed to me taking echinicea, being

afraid it would boost my immune system and he was giving me

minocycline at the time! Obviously, he didn't understand the protocol

very well.

Then again, I am certainly no expert or doctor when it comes to this -

perhaps others with a deeper medical background will respond to you.

(When i was on minocycline , I took 100mg 2x/day 7 days a week. Not

everyone can handle that though).

Hi Steve! Geoff here. Sorry if this and my other posts for awhile are

a mess. I'm trying to post through the site. (U-G-H what a pig

of a process!)

The MWF dosage is recommended for most people due to gut tolerance,

long-term exposure, etc. Using the MWF method allows for repopulation

ofbeneficial bacterium, reduces adverse events, allergic reactions,

etc. If you can tolerate 200 mg/daily, that is the dosage used in the

O'Dell study.

As to these items: Methotrexate, 2 1/2mg pred, and Celebrex... they

all work against the tetracycline theory, which posit the enhancement

and strengthening of the immune system. (They weaken it.) Many

physicians view the tetracyclines not from the perspective of ridding

an infectious agent as the root cause of the disease, but from the

perspective of their theoretical anti-inflammatory properties. Thus

they have no qualms about combining the tetracyclines with other

antiinflammatories,

DMARD's, etc.

In the end the choice is yours, but it may help knowing the reasoning

behind how you are being medicated.

FWIW, were it me, I might well choose a different route than you,

being rid of the Methotrexate, 2 1/2mg pred, and Celebrex, and

instead opting for an herbal anti-inflammatory in conjunction with

the tetracyclines.

Way to go !!!!!!

Have you ever considered the little foam ear plugs? (I sleep in them

because hubby snores....I think I keep them in business, though I lucked out

in that the previous renter left a whole jar of them, still individually

sealed.) Just a thought.

We tried the AIT stuff with the CDs that you use at home. I don't know what

it was about it but just about came unglued. He tolerated the

headphones after some practice and would wear them but after listening to the

CD for a few minutes he would flip out on me.

Anyone want a used CD?

Thx, Deborah. All that stuff worked for years then gradually stopped

working, unfortunately. Now it's pretty much the different position

or nothing :)

I've been a vegetarian for 18 years and still got RA. Although I'm

also very chemically sensitive and get sicker when I don't eat

organic (which is a lot.) There's definitely a difference in swelling

and fatigue when I eat organic foods, on the other hand, sometimes I

get flares, then, too...

Oh, I'm so glad that mine doesn't whine too much, he's a tough guy :)

Haha, it's me that does all the whining about this symptom and that or

this pain or the other :)

That's good that your husband helps out. Perhaps I need to give mine

more credit :)

Definitely not. Even if we start out as sissies, in the end we end

up tough, eh?
