Hello , I'm the same here I can be down a few pounds and my paints falling off of me only to see a coulpe of pounds differance but never drop any more and i allways walked before which i cannt no more not any distance any way i don't think i could get back . but i guess if it's not the pain it's the depression gets me down and then i'll start for either chocolate or icecream one ! but i do understand what you are saying but i think there really shouldn't be a reason to beat our selfs up over it as much crap as is going on with us anyway . It really is a very hard and painfull cycle and all you can do is just keep trying and be good to yourself

Hello ??

I do go walking but I check the area I'm walking in for benches were I can

rest to let the pain that is building up subside before carrying on with my

walk so you could do that if you like waalking

Subject: Weight Loss / Exercise ...impossible?

Does anyone ever feel that weight loss or starting an exercise

program is impossible with RA? I am so frustrated about it.

Normally my adult weight has fluctuated between 145-160lbs after

having my two kiddo's. Not that I was normally a skinny minny but it

was a weight for my 5'6 " frame that I was comfortable with and

didn't beat myself up about too often. This month I have now been

diagnosed for 2yr with RA and my weight is at an all time high of

185lbs. This weight is NOT ok with me, and not only do I beat myself

up daily about it, I do it all day long. It disgusts me because I no

longer " look " like me and am very disappointed that I've let it go

this far.

What's worse is that every time I try to start a " diet " along with

exercise, my RA kicks in and sabatoges me. I either have a flare or

the pain just increases to where I have to stop, or let myself stop.

Diet alone is not good enough for the changes my body needs. It

needs excercise. Simply things like riding my bike seem twice as

hard as just two years ago prediagnosis. I'm letting myself, and my

muscle deteriorate which I know is not good. I can usually kick off

20lbs thru diet changes but I really need excercise to to increase

that and get some muscle tone back.

So, long story to my question, what excercises/programs do you all

do?

I have been having RA for the last 5 years. I work out

all the joints using the 'Door Gym'. I workout 3 times

a week. I bought this Door Gym at Sportmart. I have

been on methotrexate (15 mg/week) all the time. So far

the RA is in control, fortunately.

I worked out 3-4 times a week before the RA. I was in good shape I guess

except my workouts never got less challening, I always felt like I was going to

pass out, couldn't catch my breath.

I got my first RA pain on the treadmill. I thought I had sprained my tendon, I

was in an aircast for 2 months, with plenty of misdiagnoses until it became

clearer what I had.

I believe I have exercised induced asthma, which I guess I need to see a

Pulmonologist for, but between having RA, Colitis, Costocondritis,

Fibromyalgia and Piraformis Syndrome and now being pregnant, who feels

like going to see another doctor, much less exercising?!

Right now I am just taking pre-natal yoga, I always say I will walk for

exercise

but just getting through the day is challenging enough. Luckily, I have not

gained much weight being pregnant, so far at 26 weeks I am all baby! I

maintain my weight (pre-pregnancy 145 or so at 5'6 1/2) just through diet. Of

course I wish I was thinner and in better shape!

I have the same extra 25 lbs. since my dx., and I jump around in a pool, where ever I can find an evening class ( I still work full time). however, it is really difficult to drag myself cross town at 7pm when I have been home since 3pm. I would love to find a pool to use at that 3pm time slot, then when I get home, I could stay home. Running around so late in the evening wakes me up, and I cannot fall asleep then before eleven, and I get up at 5am to report to work at 7am. I have been wondering about Pilates...anyone have any info. on this? gentle hugs, Marciai_live_in_slippers <bart.tracy@...> wrote: Does anyone ever feel that weight loss or starting an exercise program is impossible with RA? Re exercise...

I haven't been able to do anything since some months pre-diagnosis

and my weight is going up, too. I'm trying to stabilize with physical

therapy so I can at least walk a little or walk in a pool, but so far no

luck. But I know a lot of members on the group *are* able to exercise...

i took pilates classes a while ago but didn't like the instructor so

i now have a few tapes at home and do those on alternate nights with

the yoga (i have yoga tapes and also go to class - i *like* my yoga

instructor and actually wish she taught more often). i think both

forms of exercise are really good for you, jmho, and they're somewhat

similar in that they really stress core (tummy/back) strength and

good posture and breathing.

It sounds like your telling my story. Before I was diagnosed almost 3

years ago, I weighed in at a whole 91 lbs, @ 5' 6 " . Within 6 months I

gained almost 60 lbs. My weight fluctuates between 140-150lbs. No

matter what I do, I cannot get it under control. I have tried bike

riding, couldn't do that, walking, couldn't do that. The my DR

recommended Pilates, which I love to do, but in a flare, cannot do. I

also was only able to do the florr, or standing exercises with

Pilates. I have been thinking about doing pool aerobics, but right

now everything causes me pain, so I'll probably wait to start that.

So, just to let you know, I DO Know exactly where your coming from.
