Dear Artist,

Welcome to the group! I'm really sorry to hear about your husband's

troubles. He really needs to see a physician ASAP. Has he tried to

contact his rheumatologist to tell him that his knee is more swollen

than ever? I would try to get him squeezed in. Or could he be placed on

a cancellation list?

Maybe a very good interest could help him sooner.

Welcome to our group. I'm sorry your husband is suffering so much. You may

be able to locate a rheumatologist in your area:

http://www.rheumatology.org/directory/geo.asp

The only thing that really helps me with morning stiffness and pain is

exercise. I know that sounds opposite of what you'd expect, but exercising

our joints is very important to keep them moving and to reduce inflammation

by pushing the fluids out of the joints. I start while still in bed and do

gentle range of motion exercises. Some people find that ice packs or heat

may help. Some like alternating heat and ice.

I hope he gets in to see a doctor quickly.

Hawraa Al Shalah:

I will try to respond to your post.

I too was born with no symptoms. The first symptoms appeared in me about

age 7, but some children show symptoms earlier. It is also common for

those with CMT to be born without symptoms. My baby foot stamp is a

perfect baby foot.

Immunizations have nothing to do with CMT and do not cause CMT. CMT is

genetic and if the parents were first cousins, it is possible the gene

mutations for each combined at conception.

Surgery can help. Sometimes more than one are needed. And the types of

surgeries offered are varied depending on the person's needs. Perhaps

the patients would do well wearing Ankle Foot Orthotics (AFOs) to help

the feet and legs and enable better walking

and give support to the feet and ankles.

Yes, the nature of CMT is progressive. Research has also shown second

generation CMT and on can be more progressive also.

Do you have physical therapy in your country where the daughter could

receive therapy and learn some stretching?

As for the hands: Surgery is available for hands as well as feet.

Followed by physical therapy and continued stretching.

As for writing, perhaps some special pens and help from an occupational

therapist/or even a physical therapist might help. Many young people

here use computers with voice activated software - thus no writing

required.

Perhaps looking into the MDA International Association might give you

more help. Also, do the patients have an exact CMT diagnosis? Research

has found that Frederich's Ataxia (another neuromuscular and peripheral

nerve disorder) is mimicking CMT; so perhaps a DNA test of the parents

and daughter would give a correct diagnosis.

Hawraa,

If you mean " can surgery treatment take away CMT " the answer is " no " .

CMT is a genetic disease. Now, there IS a way through a special method

of in vitro fertilization where the CMT gene can be removed BEFORE

conception, and if successful, this results in a CMT-free child.

Surgery does help many people with CMT to correct foot/ankle and hand

use.

That sounds great Tom

But if that was the simplified version then I know why I never made it in medical research LMFAO.

Abstract: Survey of Journal articles shows preponderance of evidence that Multiple Sclerosis attacks occur during breakdowns of the blood-brain barrier. Other articles show that flavonoids including those found in blueberries and grape seeds amongst others can inhibit blood-brain barrier breakdown in rats under conditions which normally lead to such breakdown. The same flavonoids can also be effective in reducing inflammation, which Proposed Clinical Tests

O lordy, I wish I knew what everyone was talking about. I was diagnosed about 5 years ago but have had it for over 30 years. My enzyemes were always 'normal' but the last two times they have been elevated. Now I'm waiting for my tests to come back from the lab (they take almost 4 weeks for the one test) then I'll know more about treatment etc. Until then, I'm going to go on no mail, cuz this is all Greek to me at this point. Thanks to everyone and will see ya in May sometime..

Hi ,

Sorry you aren't doing well. Are you on anything else for your depression?

Klonopin is a sedative, it will calm you down, but it won't help your

depression.

I’m more familiar with rheumatoid

arthritis than I am with your other symptoms. I notice that you are taking

Methotrexate, Remicade, and Prednisone as medicines for rheumatoid arthritis

and these are the medications that have helped me greatly. However, they

did take quite a while to work well so I had to be patient. Along with

Methotrexate my doctor gave me Folic Acid to help counteract the side effects

of Methotrexate and also to replace some of the Folic Acid that is used up by

Methotrexate. You might ask your rheumatologist about that if you are not

already taking it.

I’m not familiar with Klonopin so I

looked it up and found that it is used to control seizures. I don’t

know what kind of a doctor you see for the seizures but that is not usually

treated by a rheumatologist. You should be seeing a general practitioner

or family doctor for most things and a rheumatologist for your arthritis.

However, I think you should also be seeing a specialist for your seizures but I’m

not sure what kind of specialist. That same specialist may be able to

help with the problems you are having with nerves.

I hope you are able to get your medical

problems solved. God bless.
