Guest guest
Here is a link to information regarding hives. Remicade does cause this. You should be on an anti histamine or a shot, straight away, a cortisone cream. Have your RD and a dermatologist work together and dont get anymore Remicade for the near future. They mix remicade and might have infused you too quickly or mixed it improperly or given an incorrect dose to you. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/203667.html#SXX25 On 5/23/06, Gwen Orel <gwenorel@...> wrote: Hi there, haven't posted to this list for a long time and i'll keep this briefbecause I have to get back into bed cause only lying down are the hives bearable.I'm 41, have had RA since I was 14 (they called it JRA then). I wason enbrel, but when i went to individual insurance after my cobra wasused up i found the cost prohibitive. So I switched to remicade, since because it's given in the doctor's office, all i pay is thecopay. I'd had it once before but had to stop when I switched jobs, had no bad reactions. One week after getting the remicade my body suddenly erupted in painful, red, itchy hives everywhere. some of my body was bright red.then I developed angiodema in the face and looked like ensteinwith my swollen eyelids, jaw and neck. That was yesterday. Saw my gp who gave me two shots, prescribed heavy prednisone and a few otherthings. the swelling is down but the itchiness remains and new hivescontinue to erupt.has anybody experienced anything like this? Do you think it can be the remicade, since it was so much later that it started? I hadn'teaten anything suspect and am on no other new drugs. Didn't get stungby any bees; there were some small bugs flying around but I don't know what they were and don't believe they could have caused this.b Docsays it's not a contact allergy.Anybody? Thanks!

It wouldn't surprise me if something went wrong. It took three tries for my RD to get it going into a vein (talk about bruises) and several times they came in and said it was dripping too slowly and had to adjust it. I was just surprised because it took a whole week for the reaction to happen, and when I had that first infusion years ago before I moved nothing happened. Anyway, here it is Wednesday and i've been in bed for three days, finally today beginning to feel better. My GP has treated this very aggressively with two shots, high doses of steroids, atarax and pepcid (which is also an antihistamine). and I can take zyrtec too. It isn't just a question of itching though I've been very sick and sleeping a lot. have missed a lot of work as a result. everyone's been very kind and understanding but it has sucked. today is the first day I seem to have no new ones, fingers crossed. The places where it was really swollen are sore now.
