Humira and enbrel

Hi all...

I took Enbrel first and was very satisfied with that medication. I had to mix it myself when first prescribed. Then, i started to get mouth sores. My rheumy took me off the enbrel. Since then, i have had all my teeth removed ( thanks to Sjogrens disease, etc) and have dentures. I feel that i could give the enbrel another try since i am not having problems with my mouth anymore. I will ask to have the enbrel that I mix myself since the premix burns like heck. I also tried Humira which gave me a bad allergic reaction..burning that didn't stop....red and black and blue area at the injection site and hardness. I developed a pressure ulcer from the scab that developed on the injection site that I had to go to wound care center for 3 months to get it taken care of. With the humira burning, i couldn't sleep and had my leg outside the covers with ceiling fan blowing on it. My rheumy told me to use benaryl before my shot and that would take care of the reaction but it didn't. I contacted the Humira site...Abbott... and made my complaint ...also the FDA. It was horrible. It took weeks for the burning to go away. I believe it is the premix only that gave me the problems.

Hopefully, no one else will experience this.

Hugs..paula

I had a similar experience with Humira. So I stopped it. Now my new rheummy

is talking about it again. I refused to take it. The burning was horrible. It

was getting longer and longer.

I tried Enbrel and it did not work well for me. But if he insists I will

have to try to try it again. I will NOT take the Humira or even try the pre-mix

Enbrel. The really sad part was when I posted how bad it burned. I got bashed

that the burning was better than the pain of RA. Hmmmmm...I am thinking

this people are crazy and they have no idea what is like to inject burning acid

into your skin...cause that is what if felt like.

I am glad someone else understands..

That's terrible, a. I'm really sorry you experienced that and

lost a chunk of your leg, too.

It's so important that these side effects are reported. Good that you

did that.

It does seem to be true that, in our group, members generally have a

harder time tolerating the premixed formulations, especially Humira.

Good luck with Enbrel. I hope it's smooth sailing from now on.
