Great post! You said it all! I'd be interested to know how you found out

about/acquired treatments from other countries.

Hi

I discovered a company in Great Britain that carries a lot of medications from

different parts of Europe called IAS (International Anti-aging Services).

They have a dessicated thyroid that 2 tablets are the equivilant of 1 Armour.

Many drugs that we have to have a prescription for here are over the counter

in Europe.

Leisa,

Where in CT do you live? My sister in CT is due to give birth with her first

child in April and I believe she would love to know the name of a Ped. with an

attitude such as the one you have described. Congrats in finding the right

one...Kindly inform. Blessings, Nadine

I just returned from my DR's visit and got good news. I am in remission! I

read Elena and Sue's letter and it was great timing. I was very frustrated

with my DR visit. He seemed annoyed with my questions and almost

patronizing. I left feeling frustrated and like my questions weren't

answered but more like I was put off. Like " I'm the Doctor , I'll worry

about that stuff. You just follow my directions and don't worry about

anything. " I feel like it is time for me to at least look into seeing

another doctor. I would like one I can talk to about my concerns and ask

questions of. I like to know why I am taking certain meds and what they will

do, etc... That doesn't seem like too much to ask. How does one go about

finding a good doctor? I know this is a rare disease and I don;t want to

leave my life in anyone's hands. I always hear people say things " He's one of

the top doctors in his field. " How do they know that? Is there some list of

the top doctor's like there is for businessmen? Any help or suggestions

would be appreciated!

Hello All,

I have had major computer problems and have missed the last posts.

I agree that doctors don't have a clue they have told me so, They can

only do or say what they are told to so who tells them what to say

that's the one we need to talk to.

Just read something very interesting you know that hole in the ozone?

Well come to find out the air conditioners and cars don't and did not

cause this problem it was the government.

Well comes to find out it was there nuclear weapons test in the pacific

and when they exploded a nuclear bomb they caught the ozone on fire and

destroyed it It was not our flat they can not put the blame on us our

government is destroying the earth!!!!!! They tell the doctors what to

say also!!

and it doesnt pay much. I would hate to really believe that this is so.

, Unfortunately it is true. Medicine has become a business not a

patient oriented profession. Everything revolves around the dollar. I

do NOT have and HMO and wouldnt have that type of coverage if my life

depended on it. I know many doctors who base their decisions about your

care on the money they can get from the Insurance companies or medi-cal

or medicaid or even now medicare. Medicare has become so bad that some

doctors refuse to take patients who have it. I have a PPO plan and so

have the flexability to see who I want. If I see a doctor out of plan

then I pay 20% versus the 10% if they are in plan.

Its a very sad state of affairs our medical system in this country. Ive

been in it for over 15 yrs and have watched its decline.

Just because they are Drs., doesn't mean they graduated at the top of

their class. Right? I even read one time that you should always ask

your new doctor what percentage of the class he/she graduated in. But

being Drs., they'd probably lie. :-)

Dear Elena and all,

Speaking of doctors, I dread to see mine on my Tues appt. Last time I was

there he yelled at me. We were looking at a picture of the inside of my

stomach. He started to explaing a hiatal hernia to me. I said I know what

that is, and he yelled " NO YOU DONT KNOW " . Well, I did know, but wasnt

about to argue with him. It was late in the day and he had had a long

tiring day. I hope that is all it was. But I dont like being yelled at and

treated as a no nothing.

Dear J:

I've been yelled at by my doctor, too. I was all doped up getting ready for

my endoscopy and I asked him about something I'd read in my chart. He got

all mad that I'd looked into my chart when he wasn't looking and argued about

a question I asked him. I finally said, " Don't yell at me when I'm doped

up! " He finally seemed to realize what he was doing and shut up! It is very

frustrating to be treated like little kids by men and women that are either

younger or around the same age. The last time I talked to my doctor on the

phone, I stated something obvious to him and he said " well, DUH! " in a real

sarcastic voice. If he ever does that again I'm going to tell him that when

my daughter says that to me she gets grounded, what shall I do to him? I've

vowed to never let him talk to me that way again. I'm going to keep my cool

and state very politely that it's unacceptable. If he sends me on my way,

then so be it. I'm tired of it. I've been feeling just grouchy enough to do

something about it, too! Don't feel scared of him. He's just a guy. He

probably farts in bed and gets up with 'bed hair' just like the rest of us.

Poop on those that insist on an air of " I AM LORD OF ALL THAT I SURVEY (or at

least this 8x8 exam room)! " You're a nurse and deserve just as much respect

as he does, AND you are paying him for his services.

Well, thanks for listening to me rant and rave (whew! I needed that!). I

hope everyone has a good week!

Elena, the problem is I am on medicaid and not all docs take medicaid.

Plus, I have been with this doc for years, and I guess I can let him have

one bad day. He is usually a teddy bear.

Hi Kathy,

I know I am on the wrong line here but I am just learning to run a computer

so bare with me. I was yelled at by one of my many doctors as I am comming

out of a coma and morphine laced stupor, I have no clue of what he said or

why. I do know as I have been told that I got my licks in to him and even the

nurses turned this doctor in and he is the proffessor at the hospital. This

doctor even got in a fight with me because I tried to refuse a liver biopsy.

I had fallen the night before and landed on my wound I was hurting so bad

from that then they do a biopsy, well he threw the paper I needed to sign at

me yelled again and ran out of my room to give me time to think. Needless to

say the doctor won. However since this time he and I have become friends.

Even when I had to be put in the hospital in September for pnumonia this

doctor came to say hi to me. Don " t let the doctors intimidate you at any

time. These doctors may be well educated. But they will never know what we

actually go through. They will never know our deep thoughts or pain, do you

ever feel as though when you come to your appointments and they ask how you

are doing that you are just to say ok? Do you ever feel you are caught up

the the clinics rush because there are so many of us and we need such

extensive care that sometimes they forget things that still need to be

ordered or done and you have to remind them continuously? Maybe this will

help as well. I am seeing the lung clinic for lung damage and asthma. The

lung clinic and the liver clinic fight with each other. Another hospital

visit I had both clinic doctors were out in the hall fighting over wether to

send me home, I settled that argument and told both sets of doctors I was

going home deal with my lungs later. The liver clinic would not send me home

with oxygen from my original hospital stay of 5 weeks. Well I won that one

too I need oxygen. I am so glad we are able to write these letters to each

other I have felt so much better being a part of this group. I have actually

been able to see a faster healing process within myself because of all of you

shareing your life, I can now say its ok to feel bad or good because I have

something to go by. Information the doctors are not going to give you.

Anybody in this group go to Dr. Black at Temple University? I ask

this because I feel like this group is great. But I would really enjoy

meeting some people and getting to know. Its so hard to write when you can't

put a face with the person you are writing to. Any suggestions?

I live in the Detroit, Michigan area and I too would like to know how to

find a decent care provider. You are right, doctors think they are God and

they do not care that you know your family better than they and heaven

forbid you know something about the problem.

Some pediatricians are not so bad. My pediatrician is very excited that we

breastfeed past age 1. He is a little forceful on the vaccination issue,

but he has other families who don't vaccinate. My biggest problem is that

we did vaccinate up until I started researching, so they have a hard time

understanding why you would change your mind.

I recommend " The Holistic Pediatrician " by Kemper to find out about

child-friendly alternative holistic medicine. There are some good

resources in the book to help you find what you are looking for. You may

want to look into seeing a homeopath. Doing a search on the internet will

lead you to several sites. I'm sure there are list members who have sites

they like best and could suggest some. Using one of them I found a

homeopath in my area, but I don't know how to find out if he's really good

or not.

I would find a midwife or doula or some sort of alternative health care

practitioner - and ask them.

Everyone has the right to believe and accept what they want,

but reality doesn't discriminate. Reality is not different

for different people. Not once has reality excused anyone

for good intentions ignorance or stubbornness. Reality

shows no mercy, accepts no excuses, and issues no pardons.

Reality does not " turn the other cheek. " This does not mean

that reality is cruel, it just means that reality is.
