Guest guest
We do the Wilbarger protocol and its been very helpful, although its taken a bit longer to see results. Your supposed to do the brushing and pressure evey 90 min to 2 hrs. With my son in school, thats not going to happen. We do it every 3 hrs (he gets the brushing everytime he gets his chelator!) on the weekends and after school. It usually takes about 2 weeks to see benefits (if your doing it every 2 hrs), it took us about 2 months to see the benefits. He loves it and we've seen improvements in coordination and self regulation. He's never been sensitive to touch, just the opposite, he's a sensory seeker, and the brushing and joint compressions have a nice calming effect. Guest guest
We tried it 2 years ago when my son's sensory issues were really bad. We followed the Willbarger protocol exactly. My son couldn't tolerate it. Our OT told us to stop it. I do know that most people who use it find it works well for them, so we were odd there. It can't hurt to try it. The number one thing we needed to do to address sensory issues was parasite treatment. The other things that were helpful were: removing food intolerances, SI therapy, Therapeutic Listening, using the " ALERT " program, and chelation. My son has very, very minor residual sensory issues today. He wears what he likes, without regard to how it " feels " , noises are no longer an issue, and in the past month we've taken him to a Rascal Flatts concert (he is a huge fan thanks to the movie CARS) and a high school Marching Band competition at a large crowded football stadium. He had a blast at both. Sensory issues are tough, and take time and daily work - but you CAN live life again. > > Has anyone tried the Brushing protocol for kids with sensory issues? > If so, did it help? > Thanks for any comments. > Joyce. >
