Guest guest
If anyone can comment or give advice, please do. I have been on this board for a few weeks now with the same senario. 17 year old started flipping out and head banging for no reason. Nothing is preceding it, unless the tv or the computer is somehow causing this. He has had an MRI and EEG. Doc has placed on Risperdal(1mg) which isn't helping. He can't get past the Autism part. When he was younger, he had some SI behaviors, mostly handbiting if he was frustrated and head banging if his allergies were big. We were in a car accident 2 years ago. I had whiplash and still have headaches. He complained with his neck and upper back for about 3 months. His doctor said he didn't think there was anything to it, just some soreness. This kid has had allergies since he was 5 and can't take the allegra they prescribed for him. His Dad has allergy headaches so bad he can't stand it. We have a family history of migraines. This is my theory. This kid is in pain; either from the IBS or some kind of headache or both and can't tell us. The meds they gave him for allergies have a panic attack component(doesn't take anymore) and IBS med has a psychosis side effect(doesn't take anymore) so now he is left with the pain. There is no anticedent here. He just stops whatever he is doing and starts mashing his nose or the top of his head and within 30 sec is beating or banging his head. After 1 dose of children's motrin he calms down but not completely. After the 2nd dose he is a different person. I don't know what to do. Don't know how to convince the doctor to look for these issues. All he will do is look at the tests and lab results and say there is nothing functionally wrong. The only person I can get a referral to is the neurologist. Does he need to be checked out by a chiropractor or an allergist? We would have to do that on our own. Since he is close to 18 no other pediatrician will see him and when you mention non-verbal autism to an adult doctor you would think this kid had leprosy.
