Another question...anyone have myoclonus?

I was just given another diagnosis of myoclonus, in addition to my

RA. It didn't start though until after my back surgery in December of

2005. However, it is horrible and I don't know what brought it on or

if the surgery just triggered it.

Anyone else have this diagnosis or know anything about it?

Thanks,

Miriam

I had not heard of it before so I looked

it up. It seems to be a description of symptoms rather than a specific

disease. It includes such benign things as hiccups to much more serious

problems. I hope you have a mild set of problems. God bless.

Thanks Harold,

It started after my back surgery, I have never had it before. It

started with slight tremors of my arms and legs, and cuased jerking

motions whenever I was laying down. It has now been almost 3 months

since my surgery and it has gotten worse. I get it when I am awake

and sitting, I can feel the muscles jerking, but the worst is when I

lay down.

It usually starts with my hands jerking around and then my upper

arms and shoulders. By this time, my legs have started to jump

around and so has my torso. The last 2 weeks, the jerking and

tremoring at night has been quite violent. I am practically

throwing myself off the bed and twisting, and it really hurts. My

husband said that last night was a really bad night. If I try to

write, my hand jerks and writes a scribble on the paper, if I try to

hold anything, my hands and arms tremor and I end up throwing

things. It is really frustrating and scary.

Thanks for looking it up for me,

Miriam

Your problem might

be somewhat similar to Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and here’s a link

about that that seems to be pretty recent. God bless.

I have a friend with a very severe form of myoclonus. Baclofen works well in milder cases.

Hi ,

What makes your friends very severe? What kind of symptoms does

he/she have? Mine seems more severe than what I am reading on the web

pages about myoclonus, so I am just confused and worried. Does it

ever go away once it starts?

Thanks so much,

Miriam

My friend has such severe twitching and spasms that at times he cannot eat, or walk. It rarely lets up. He is constantly exhausted from the twitching. He has been seen by leading neurologists in the nation and had an intrathecal baclofen pump put in, which offered some relief.

I posted awhile back and I guess I should have used the term " jerks " .

I read about it from Harold's post and it really hit sounds just like

what is happening to me.

I have epilepsy also, and I go to see my neurologist on the 9th. I'm

going to talk to him about it. I'll let you know more then.
