Dear Sheri, thanks for the comilva stuff. the belgian " international vaccination newsletter " has an interesting site. i'm originally german, but living in italy - as you know one of the last countries where vaccinations are obligatory by (self-contradictory) law. i'm not a health fanatic or an integralist about natural remedies, it's just that some of the vaccination logic doesn't add up to me, and i'm doing my best to tackle what seems like a fairly important decision. ciao for now philip
Guest guest
Hi Antonella, Can they order a DDI hair elements test? Do you know what toxic metal exposures she has had. Might make more sense to get a mercury toxic diagnosis (if that's the case) than a autism dx or proceed as if until they find out otherwise... S S Hi, My cousins live in Italy and have a 7year little girl. All these years the doctors have not diagnosed why she is not speaking. They have told them that it might be a genetic disease from a long lost family member. Chiara has all the symptons of Autism, but the Doctors have convinced them that she is not autistic. I want them to come to Los Angeles to have her tested and start getting proper care. I guess what I am asking is if anyone has any advise for us on how to get her proper help. Thanks, Antonella
Guest guest
Hi Antonella, The (Doctor's Data, Inc.) DDI hair elements test can be ordered through Direct Labs Services (DLS) without a doctor. They send the test kit to many different countries, I just don't happen to know if Italy is among them. Maybe you could call DLS and ask or you could have the test kit sent to you and have them send you the hair sample to send in. If they go that route they would then need to apply the counting rules or have someone help do so. Many of the tests doctors run to supposedly check for metal toxicity are useless (blood, for example, shows only current exposure), others are dangerous (DMSA challenge). Many doctors don't understand the gluten-free, casein-free diet or reasons for it. They may want to run a trial,, but that could be challenging in Italy. I'm GF and my husband and I are vegan. A couple years ago we considered visiting Italy for vacation and decided diet would be too difficult without a kitchen. S S Re: Italy Posted by: " Antonella Bravata " abravata75@... abravata75 Sun Aug 29, 2010 7:42 pm (PDT) Hi , I actually asked them that question today, if they know what her mercury level is. They have not had any testing of that sort. I can suggest that to them tonight when I email them. Would they just ask the Dr to do the hair test to check her level of mercury? If the Dr in Italy cant do that, can I have them send me a sample and have it tested here? I also had them ask their Dr. if it would be wise to alter her diet to be a gluten and dairy free. Do you think that is something they should ask about as well?
Guest guest
Jumping in here: Going gluten/casein free would be a wonderful step for them. I would not even have them ask their doctor (doctors don't think it does anything at all), but instead tell them that, typically, 50% of parents who take gluten/casein out of the kids' diets see improvements in behaviors/function. The majority of the rest see nothing at all, but some of that could be because the diet is hard to follow 100% (both due to parent mistake and circumstances outside of their control). A 4-6 month try would work. If they aren't going to make an honest effort, then they should not try it at all. you can send them here: www.talkaboutcuringautism.org if they speak English at all. One of the researchers who helped with the recent study that concluded the GFCF diet DOESN'T work was a person from the University of Bari, Italy; so I assume docs in Italy all follow what he said! Second, the DDI hair test is about so much more than the mercury. Autism is about so much more than the mercury. You would have to call the Doctor's Data company to see if you can get a hair test to Italy. Are your relatives even interested? Do they do anything right now with diet, supplements, 'alternative' medicine? Whether or not to have a diagnosis of Autism is questionable. How would it benefit them? The diagnosis, at least here, does not help with biomedical treatment. The only thing it did for us was provide a resource for therapy funding. I don't know what resources they have in Italy nor do I know how they restrict access. For language: fish oil (1+ grams/day), methylB12/TMG/folinic acid/B6 and Olive leaf extract were all wonderful. That was for my son. It is hard to recommend much when you know little. I suppose I'll keep my opinions to myself for a bit. You are a good cousin for trying. What was their reaction to your request to bring her to Los Angeles?
