We later found out that our family has lyme disease, (and 80 something percent of autistic kids going to dr. K end up testing positive for lyme disease through IGENEX, the regular western blot testing the hospitals do is innacurate). If the immune system is related, which it is, they say the thymus stops working around puberty. The thymus gives the lymph system (detox) an extra boost, when it declines at puberty this could be one of the reasons why a regression during puberty could occur (just a theory-read about the thymus in and A & P book), who knows what else changes during puberty that could effect this also, there is probably a long list. Around puberty, our son regressed, he got down to 84 lbs on a 5'4 frame by age 14, could not eat food because of ocd and food allergies, and extreme nausea, we worked to gain it back by age 16/17 when we began chelation he was 150 lbs on a 5'11 frame, but would not leave the house or bathe, and was at age 17 90% down to two words, " need food " , then we had to list off different fast food places for a half and hour until we mentioned the food he could crave, he could only keep down what he craved otherwise nausea would overtake him (reminded me of a pregnant woman). He wouldn't say two words, unless their was a video game he wanted which he would communicate in sentances about, and no eye contact. Then after 8 months of andy cutler chelation in combination with six months of zinc loading, he was eating, leaving the house, driving, talking in full sentances, eye contact, driving, enrolled in college, holding down a job, playing with siblings which they loved and cried because they missed him, his chemical sensitivity was less, it was quite amazing. So this very low communicating 17 year old recovered and is now a 20 year old. He went from us having to do everything for him including carry him to the kitchen coutertop to bathe him when he would let us, to doing everything a normal person does through this treatment, he fully takes care of himself and he fully talks in full on eye contact conversations, and has had several girlfriends. . check out bestbirth child #1 in the photos. Also, just when we began the chelation three rounds in, he developed ridges on his fingernails, we were told that ridges developing on fingernails is a sign of lyme disease, but since his ocd fear of leaving the house, he had not been bitten by a tick. Since then we found out that lyme can be given congenitally from placenta to baby if the mom has it. We found out that lyme disease can induce autism and when the lyme is treated the autism can be reversed as well. Lyme treatment involves chelation because the lyme bacteria cloaks itself around metals, so chelating is an important part of that therapy. There is the LIA foundation, lyme induced autism foundation which brings the issues of lyme disease and autism to light. This definately means to me and from what I have heard other parents say that if the autism is lyme induced, which I am starting to think that a lot of cases are, the chances of recovering speech, cognition, reading, and all kinds of skills are possible, and even scientifically explainable. I have a 14 year old who cannot read. I know that he will read as we treat his lyme disease. Lyme disease causes cognitive distortions and when you treat the lyme, the distortions leave. When we kill off the lyme, we create a dieoff that can over load the body with worsening symptoms called " herx " , these herx symptoms and dieoff symptoms are controlled by an elaborate network of dieoff moppers (milk thistle, modifilan, microsilica, parsley, burbur, activated charcoal, pascalite clay) and chelation for detox. So imagine if you will, the pills involved with doing AC chelation, plus an antinflammatory protocol, PLUS a lyme protocol, Plus a yeast protocol, Plus a dieoff mopper protocol...It' s a lot.
