Guest guest
If this is how the report reads, then all are normal except the D1, which is HIGH. Vitamin D1 is a specific form of Vitamin D and is also known as lamisterol and forms calciferol. D1, D2, and D3 are all different. No need to increase D3. (unless you increase Vitamin C) 400 IU's of vitamin D daily is all that is recommended for children. (More if there is a deficiency). Some sources say this is a low number and 1,000 iu daily is recommended to ward off a deficiency. Does your child take a calcium supplement? If so, you might need to change, as there may be too much D1 in it. Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3 (both hormones, actually, not vitamins) are the most important. (Not sure about D1, but Vitamin C reduces Vitamin D in general.) P.S. When in doubt, ask a doctor or nutritionist. > > Good afternoon, all, > > Just got some blood work from Quest Diagnositics for my son. Guest guest
I agree that 5000 IUs is plenty, plenty enough D3. This is the time of year where you get more sun exposure, too. I have stopped giving my son D3 these days since we are outside so much. I might give it from time to time. I did not know C reduces D. Time to do some reading! What are the reference ranges for these labs, Jerry? Also, were you supplementing with 5000 IUs when this blood was drawn? Guest guest
Good evening, all, Lance was/is taking 5,000 IU per day. The Quest Diagnostics ranges were as follows: 1. 20 - 100 for the Vitamin D, 25-OH 2. 31 - 87 for the Vitamin D, 1,25-hydroxy Here some information that I received from the Vitamin K group: Your son's D 25 is just under the current recommended level from academic researchers, which is 65. It is common on this list for kids to have a high D 1,25. Both D numbers are important because you have to look at the ratio. The ratio of D 1,25 to D 25 should be less than 1.0. Your ratio is 2.09. This indicates that he is converting the storage form of D to the activated form at an accelerated rate. has explained this as follows: " The body uses 1,25 to signal the bones to release calcium, so this is yet another indication that your son is dismantling bone to get at the minerals. " I think I need to do some more reading and call a nutritionist. Thank you for all the help, Jerry > > > > > > Good afternoon, all, > > > > > > Just got some blood work from Quest Diagnositics for my son.
