Guest guest
I wonder if this was made to help or hurt organic shoppers. You walk through Whole Foods and you plainly see if it is organic or conventional, you see the country labels everywhere. They are pretty up front and honest, in my opinion, definitely moreso than other places. http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/products/sourcing.php And of course, " California Blend " means that it is that blend of vegetables, not that it is from CA. Really? Are people really going to make an issue there? And the private labeling they do sources several other brands, so it is the same for many retail chains that they source to. Guest guest
I don't think whole foods should be dissed..that's not my take...I think that consumers need to beware of these labels and make sure that in the fine print it doesn't say from China...a girlfriend just told me she checked her labels just now...she had accidentally bought some of this China " organic " at Tom Thumb ...any store could be carrying this stuff.... -- [ ] Re: Whole Foods - Made in China I wonder if this was made to help or hurt organic shoppers. Guest guest
I don't think WF should be dissed, either - I'll probably shop there till I find a better source. Two things that bothered me in this news report: first, WF themselves had no clue about their certifying agency's credentials in China. Second, all produce has to go through a certain process to enter the US and be treated for any possible non-native parasites, etc. Just like the customs won't let in any unopened food item on aninternational traveler at the airport. Packaged is fine. Irradiation and spraying are some methods that are used. Which *may not* apply to the frozen produce, but then again, look for my reason one. I posted this info for the same reason, I guess, the newsreport was targeting - Buyer beware! We can not trust any single business - let it be a chain supermarket or a farmer at a farmer's market booth putting a " All Natural " sign on his chemiacal laden watermelon. Businesses are catching up on the organic/helthy living trend and are here to make money. Which is fine with me but It's my job not to get ripped. Although I have to admitt, it gets harder and harder these days. Happy shopping, everybody, and let's looke out for each other! Guest guest
That's really sad. I will be checking packages more carefully now. ________________________________ From: gixsbhelp <gixsbhelp@...> Sent: Fri, March 5, 2010 10:40:57 AM Subject: [ ] Whole Foods - Made in China Saw it posted on another board and thought I'd share: http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=JQ31Ljd9T_ Y Apparently, WF often imports produce from China, labels it organic and has no way to prove it. Guest guest
You know I really try to be so very careful...but I can't say that sometimes I haven't gone on " auto-pilot " and bought stuff that I shouldn't have...one more good wake up call for all of us...but I think that this is likely an issue at every grocery store versus just some...isn't it a darn shame that we have to be so vigilant with stuff commonly thought to have some protective guidelines... -- [ ] Whole Foods - Made in China Saw it posted on another board and thought I'd share: http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=JQ31Ljd9T_ Y Apparently, WF often imports produce from China, labels it organic and has no way to prove it. Guest guest
This video does rounds around the internet. You should all read Whole Foods' response to this. They are such an honest, upright company of good people, good community values and ethics. I think that the people interviewing did a horrible, horrible job. http://blog.wholefoodsmarket.com/whole-foods-market-responds-to-wjla/ I personally, here, shop more at Trader Joe's, online and farmer's CSAs or markets, only going to WF when I have to... we have 2 WF within 20 mins. I liked Wild Oats a little better. Right now, the local grocery stores and markets are cheaper and I try to support local farming when I can. Guest guest
It has always been a 'buyer beware' kind of world... just the stakes are higher and the market is so global. Lots more to weed through.
