Its called Methycilling Resistant Staph Aureus, and it depends on where she has it. If it is on her skin, that is usually the lesser of all the evils. It is usually treated w/ anbiotics of Gentamycin or Vancomycin. It can sometimes require long term meds to get rid of, depending on how severe and where she has it. And, I have been told by the docs I work with that it can completely go away. But, most often times, can be dormant as well. Yes, you should avoid contact, because it is transmitted by physical contact, including inanimate objects. And, always practice good handwashing techniques. Hope this helps.... in WV i_live_in_slippers <bart.tracy@...> wrote: Anyone every been afflicted with MRSA type staph infection? My mom, who also has RA and is

obviously on drugs to suppress her immune system just got diagnosed with this. It's been horrible. My dr. says it'd be best if I avoided contact with her while she has it. I've read it can be really hard to get rid of and some people never really do, that it just lies dormant and then comes back. Any info?Thanks__________________________________________________

IF the staph is upper respiratory then I think you should avoid contact with her, but if you use gloves and a mask, as severe as that sounds, you might be fine. You should avoid anyone with a strep or staph type infectioin since they are contagious. GOOGLE SEARCH MRSA and see what pops up. My regards to your MOM. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hugs, Deborah

Thanks everyone. She went back to the dr. today and was referred out

to a surgeon to possibly have one of the wounds " cleaned out " but

thankfully he said he's going to wait a few more days, that it's

still OK for now. We did some asking to our dr's and they all have

said that preventatively I should avoid contact with her until she

gets this resolved. Hopefully she responds well to the medicine.

Thanks again-
