Guest guest
What medicine was your mom taking? There are many alternatives. Also, she should be on some effective pain meds until she finds something that works for her. > > Hello All > I am really concerned about my mom. > She has had RA for like a little over 1 year now. > She is in SUCH pain, its not even funny. Guest guest
I’m sorry about your mom. I was pretty much the same way for my first month with RA but then with the help of Prednisone I was able to function reasonably well while the real RA medications were taking effect. Prednisone is a strong anti-inflammatory that usually helps quickly with the symptoms of RA but does little to slow down the joint erosions that usually come along. It can have some bad side effects when taken at high levels for long times so we usually try to get off it as soon as we can. Most of us have pretty good luck with Methotrexate that is taken once a week as several pills taken at once. That might be the one that is causing your mom’s troubles. She should be seeing a rheumatologist because few other doctors really understand RA and how to treat it. There are a lot of other good medicines for RA but many do have possible side effects. Most of us think it is much better to take the medicines and have a pretty good quality of life than it is to let the RA go untreated and be miserable. We might be able to offer better suggestions if we knew what your mom has taken and what effects it has had. There are also many pain killers that either her rheumatologist or her family doctor can prescribe. She should not have to tolerate such pain so I hope she calls a doctor to get some treatment. Guest guest
You don't provide enough information to know the kind of med hurted your mom's kidneys so we don't know how to help without that information. What I can tell you is that I am on Humira shots one a week, methotrexate every week and prednisone and are able to put 10 hours everyday at work and before I was on this medicine I could not even get out of the couch. > > Hello All > I am really concerned about my mom. > She has had RA for like a little over 1 year now. > She is in SUCH pain, its not even funny. Guest guest
> > Anyone in major pain like my mother is/?? ABSOLUTELY! Sorry for the caps but lets shout it from the rooftops. My pain has been horrendous and I have asked my rheumy to take me off Abatacept/Orencia because it no longer works, time to try something else. My pain manamgement dr gave me a prescription for Actiq. Anyone heard of this? It is oral fentanyl and its like a sucker and all the medicine is absorbed through your gums directly into the bloodstream. This has been an absolute g-d send. Wish your mom the best and just continue to support and love her and hopefully they will find something to help her out real soon.
