I learned about LDN when researching MS for a family member

who, as it turned out, did not have MS. I decided to try LDN for

my severe seasonal allergies and for disease prevention. I am

also curious to see how much hormone balancing effect I get

as I am menopausal and have hot flashes. I am happy to say

that the hot flashes have improved, I have stopped using

Progesterone supplements which I was using in the form of

SL tablets or cream.

The first time I tried LDN I made my own topical with DMSO.

For those unfamiliar with DMSO it transports small molecules

under 1000 daltons Molecular Weight rapidly across skin and

into cells by virtue of it's solubility in water.

I did what I though was 4.5 mg for 19 days

and had terrible headaches, jaw pain, anxiety, very low

depressed mood. I eventually figured out

why. Topically with the efficient delivery by DMSO I was

getting ten times more

LDN than the same dose orally. It was way too much. But I

did become very familiar

with what too much feels like for me. The side effects were

what the literature listed for full dose Naltrexone, 50 mg.

Because I was unaware of the fact that I was getting equivalent

to an oral dose off 50 mg until my reading lead me to more

information at a later time I thought perhaps I was reacting

because of a gluten or casein sensitivity per McCandless.

The next thing I did was spend about 6 weeks trying to cut

gluten and casein out of my diet to see if I was sensitive since

that can be a source of headaches. I am not.

Then I tried going back on LDN, oral liquid made from 50 mg

tablets.

I tried 3 mg. But I had to cut my dose back from 3 to 2

because of

headaches that started within a couple of days and

feeling generally a sort of malaise that I have come to

associate

with too much LDN. When reducing to 2 mg did not alleviate

the headaches I tried every other day dosing and that seemed

to help. But when I tried to go back to every day I got the

headaches

and low or depressed feeling again.

Finally I dropped the dose to 1 mg, tried day time dosing

for a while

but found it hard to remember to take my LDN during the day.

Even

at 1 mg I was still having some headache pain, although

milder so

I felt I was on the right track. So I stopped for 5 days to

clear my

system and get a break from the headaches.

I started again at 0.5 mg about 9 days ago and have not had any

headache pain at all. On about day 7 I started actually

feeling good

like some people talk about, an endorphin lift, more energy and

less day time sleepiness. Although I still have some vivid

dreams

and take Melatonin at night the dreams are less.

At this point I am committed to giving myself the 30 days to

adjust

to 0.5mg. I will increase again after that 30 days, not sure

if I will

go up by 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg. It is so nice to not have headaches

and to get some of the positive benefits of LDN after so many

months of struggling I just want to enjoy some of the benefits.
