Guest guest
I read the text below in " Disconnected Kids " by Dr Melillo. This is the first time I read an opinion about left-brain and right-brain function as it relates to immune system responses & I'd like to put this out there to see if this is a view shared by doctors, including Andy. How many doctors view the brain the controller of the immune system? Here is the quote: " The brain is the controller of the immune response; it's not the other way around. The immune system is a great example of how the 2 hemispheres of the brain work together as a whole. As with most bodily operations, the immune system resides in both sides of the brain but each hemisphere has a distinct job. The left immune centre is like the National Guard. It activates antibodies when illness threatens. The right side suppresses the immune system by preventing it from becoming overactive -- kind of like making sure the National Guard keeps the peace without starting a war. However, when the immune system does wage war, it sometimes attacks itself. Havoc erupts in the form of autoimmune diseases, like allergies and asthma. So in a left brain deficiency, immune defenses will be down. Bacteria, viruses and other enemies get to cross the line of least resistance and head for the sinuses, lungs, respiratory system, or wherever else they want to set up residence. Kids with left brain deficiencies get sick a lot. If something is going around, they always catch it. They get lots of ear infections and it is not unusual for them to have had 15-20 rounds of antibiotics by the time they are 8 or 9 years old. A right brain deficiency puts the immune system in overdrive. It goes to the defensive, even in the absence of an enemy and speeds out of control. In addition to asthma and allergies, it can create more subtle problems in the form of food sensitivities. .....These immune symptoms are not the cause of neurological disorders. Rather, like the other symptoms discussed here, they are part of the greater problem. " --------- Melillo doesn't talk about metals as a cause of these problems, but he does identify the broad spectrum of problems our kids have as part of their disorders. And he thinks that the imbalances in electrical brain impulses and uneven brain development in our kids is the cause all their problems. In his view, poor digestion & leaky gut also develop because of problems in the brain. Any opinions?
