Guest guest Posted May 18, 2010 Report Share Posted May 18, 2010 Hello, I started chelating my daughter when she was 8; she's 9 now and will be 10 later this year. Initially, there were alot of gains but now they have slowed down. I believe we are on Round 54 this weekend. My daughter was originally diagnosed with Severe Autism (MR probability IQ40)/ADHD/; she was always placed in the low-functioning groups. Iman is doing much better now; we are still working on language but she is much better than when we originally started. The problem with the language, aside from the sometime echoics, is the production and then actually understanding what is being said (apraxia). I applied for a social group camp this summer and she was placed in the high-functioning group. Even though she is behind in everything, she understands the requests. Whether she can complete them or not is different but she tries and knows that something is expected of her. My daughter does not look like she has Autism now, you notice it only when she starts to talk. When we started, Iman was scaled as an 18 month old; she had always been in this group across the board. Now, she is scaled at 3-4yrs (with some areas of a 5yr old). For functional skills, she is scaled 5-6. She is in an inclusive classroom and is currently learning to read. Aside from chelation, we do ABA and Floortime. Didn't notice any improvements with the low dose of ALA. Then added DMSA and are seeing very good improvements.
