I am not a Dr. , but it could be Primary Biliary Cirrhosis,If it is

PBC it has 4 stages,It is not cirrhosis until 4th stage. Urso or Actigall is medicine for this .I have PBC but the Dr.

gave me a Liver Biopsy. The biopsy does not hurt at all,

a small prick with a needle to get a very minute piece of

tissue( about the size of a pencil lead}.I didn't even feel it.

The Dr. uses a local antihesia. I drink a little wine, but maybe

you should check with your Dr. Your tests are coming down

so that is a good sign. Are you on any kind of medication

that would run up your liver enzymes?

If mononucleosis is a possibility, then chronic fatigue syndrome would be, equally, I think. Both are very hard to diagnose. Neither results in itching or jaundice, as far as I have ever heard.

Welcome to this group. I just got back from a business trip in Italy, I

really enjoyed the country. I was in Rome, Naples, and Florance

(Florance was beautiful). Your liver AST and ALT values appear to be

high. I was Dx'ed with AIH in August. My heptologist tested me for other

liver diseases also, even EBV (Mononucleosis). I had really bad itching

on my arms and thighs, and tired all the time. My test for mononucleosis

was negative. You could have autoimmune hepatitis, but you could even

have PBC (Primary Biliary Cirrhosis), drug induced hepatitis, or just

cirrhosis. If you are positive for EBV, then you could even have

Mononucleosis. Sounds like your doctor is checking everything. Did he

mention Mononucleosis to you?

Hi Clyde,

I'm glad you enyoyed your trip, We have been in Italy for five years, and I

still like it. My doctor did mention mononecluosis and asked if I had had any

bad colds recently. Maybe I have had a bit of a runny nose, but nothing else.

I'll have to do a search on mononecluosis and see what I can find out. It's nice

to hear that my doctor seems to know what he is doing. I do trust him, but we

have a bit of a communication problem. My knowledge of medical terms in italian

isn't what it should be.

Thank you for taking time to answer me, merry christmas and best wishes for the

new year.

Hi Helena,

My father's grandfather was supposed to be of Swedish royalty, though I have yet to be able to verify that. In the 70's I bought shoes for a major department store and traveled to Italy twice a year. It is a beautiful country and the people are the friendliest of any country I've visited.

The itching and joint pain are very common symptoms of liver disease. A positive ANA, or anticorpi anti nucleo, is a strong indicator of autoimmune activity. There are lots of things that can cause problems with your liver, including some common over the counter medications. Most of those kinds of problems will go away without doing anything. I'm sure that is why he wants to wait and see what happens.

A liver biopsy will help determine the type and extent of any liver damage. It's an important tool to help determine the cause, and prognosis. It is usually a very simple, relatively painless, procedure. So, it is really nothing to fear.

I would imagine that he will also do other blood tests to look for other indications of what might be causing the liver inflammation.

As for alcohol. I have totally lost any desire to drink. I know that every bit of alcohol will put additional strain on my already strained liver. Especially during the holidays when we probably overeat, have a lot of fatty foods, and otherwise strain our livers. Why add to that?

Good luck! Hopefully your problems are just a temporary thing.

-----Original Message-----From: nen@... [mailto:nen@...]Sent: Tuesday, December 19, 2000 8:29 AM egroupsSubject: [ ] Please help!!Hello everybody, My name is Helena. I'm swedish, living in italy with my two small children and my husband. I recently found this group after doing a search on autoimmune hepatitis. This is my story:Three months ago I started itching. It got to be unbearable and in the beginning of november my doctor sent me to do a bloodtest. The test showed that the liver enzymes were way too high. (ast664 and alt955). Hepatit A,B and C was excluded and an ultrasound of my liver showed no damages, only that there was some sludge in my bilaryducts. In the middle of november i saw a liver specialist, he sent me to do more bloodtests and gave me deursil (ursodexoholic acid?) to clear the bileducts. Apart from the itching i felt well and the deursil took away the itching. I thought all was fine until the 6 december when i got the result of the new tests: ast883 and alt1181. I also tested positiv for (in italian) "anticorpi anti nucleo" and "anticorpi anti EBV" He sent me to do further tests of the liver enzymes and a week later they had gone down to ast 826and ast844. The specialist said it was possible I had autoimmune hepatite or that there was some viral infection in the liver and I was told to rest and avoid alcohol. He sent me for more bloodtests and asked me to come back in the beginning of january. If the values still are high i might have to do a liver biopsy. My fingers and knees has started to ache quite badly, but only at night otherwise I feel fine. I had the results of my latest blood test today wich showed a further decrease in ast and alt (472 and 540). Now to my questions:Does this sound like autoimmune hepatitis to you?I dont feel ill or tired. That the values are getting lower must be a good sign, can it go away on it's own?How damaging is alcohol (Not alot, but I would like to be able to have a glass of wine with the christmas dinner and some champagne for new years eve)If it is not autoimmune hepatitis what could it be?Thank you very very much for reading this far, exuse me for any language errors. Merry christmas to everybody!!!!!

first off the seizures are not going ot turn him into a vegetable . it is the

drinking and drugs and without takign his meds on a regualr basis and that is

soemthing he needs to do not you it won't work. if the drug it self is haivng

horrible side effects there are plenty of new ones out there with less side

effects he could take and then his self esteem would get better. But most

neurologst won't put up with the pity party he is having. He has got to help

himself.

Dear Ron's Sister,

Is Ron in the care of a neurologist? If he is not, this should become a

top priority. If the Epilepsy Foundation has a chapter in your town, I

would definitely speak with them. If not, I would visit their website

and leave questions. If you brother is already seeing a neurologist and

neither of you are satisfied with the service that doctor is providing,

you need to seek a second opinion. You will find various clinics -

including the American Academy of Neurology - listed in the Link section

associated with this website. Please use it to help solve this

problem. That's what it's there for.

Good luck.

Hi ,

I want you to know I joined this page 5-28-03. First, what type of

epilpepsy has your brother been diagnosed with. Some types of

epilepsy require two medications. Dilantin has been around for a long

time. I myself take Neurotin and Felbatol which flip flopped my

seizures so instead of me having seizures in the day I have them at

night. Two, if your brother has several seizures in one day his Dr.

will tell you to take him to the emergency room. I know this by

experience. I was visiting family and had 5 seizures, they called my

Dr. and he told them if I had one more to call him and then take me

to the emergency room, luckily I did not have anymore that day. My

seizures come in twos. Having 2 seizures 6 months apart will not kill

your brother. Three, if your brother can smoke weed and drink he can

take his meds. RESPONSIBILITY. It is not your responsibilty it is

your brothers. My epilepsy recurred at age 12. I took the

RESPONSIBILITY of taking my medicines 4 times a day. Four, For the

meds to have its complete effect your brother must get off pot and

stop drinking. If your brother prefers to be stupid YOU should not

put weight on your shoulders. I do not drive even though my seizures

occur while asleep, I do not want to chance hurting someone else.

People with epilepsy who choose to be stupid I do not feel sorry for,

I do feel for their family. I have been through 2 brain surgeries so

fellow epileptics get no sympathy from me. I feel family of the

epileptic go through more stress than the epileptic. Stay tough.

good luck,

I was worried that 200 c would be stronger than 30c remedies because the # is

bigger. In the energetic sense it is but more diluted too.

The poison control center told me they don't have alot of info. on homeopathics.

maybe because they are not toxic.? Jenn L

My little girl slept wonderfully through the night in almost the same position.

She is usually a bit more restless than that. This morning she seemed totally

normal. So, I guess eating the aconite was ok for her. Just wanted to leave an

update. Jenn L

Others may disagree but I would call your poison control center immediately.

Those symptoms sound very concerning. Becca

Hi, Jenn. First, whether it's one or eight pellets it's still one dose. So,

don't fret about the quantity. I'm not sure poison control would have the

knowledge about homeopathy but you could ask.Let me see if I can find some info

for you.

No, I would just put something smelly under her nose. Do you have something,

even minty toothpaste?

Have something caffeine-y that you know she'll eat/drink if she wakes up. Tough

with a tired one.

Hi Jenn,

You cannot overdose on homoeopathics. All you can do is prove the

remedy. My daughter ate an entire bottle of belladonna once - turned

bright red, ran a shockingly high fever, slept for about 8 hours and

was fine the next day. She proved the remedy. Don't panic - it's not

like drugs - it is safe.

Take care,

I just don't think it is part of their training. They are probably trained to

deal with drugs, household poisons, etc. and what to do for them. I didn't get

any help from them, either. when that happened.

My son too at a whole bottle of something, forgot what, when he was two, nothing

happened, like they say, you cannot overdose on them and I was the same as you,

I freaked out though and nothing happened.

HOMEOPATHIC OVERDOSE!!

First I need to apologize for using the vax group for this but the OT group

isn't replying & I feel I need help/info. right now if anyone is listening. I

have tried to reach our homeopath but it's getting late. My daughter ate about 8

pellets of aconite 200c I think. She has been screaming out, very irritable,

very thirsty, sleeping right now but keeps waking up screaming & yelling. I

asked her what was wrong but she didn't/couldn't tell me. She is having pain or

something down there where she keeps her legs crossed tightly & sometimes holds

herself very tightly with hands when awake. Is there anything I can give her or

do to help her if she ate those pellets? She already has bad kidneys & I'm

scared. Jenn L
