Guest guest
Hi everyone - I've not posted in a while, but I'm doing okay and think of all of you all the time. Its funny, just yesterday I was thinking that half the problems I have with stomach aches, and a lot of other symptoms is due to Yeast. I decided since there are so many new people on this list (new to me anyway) that I would post my same old mantra about fighting yeast. Sue - you are so right about the staying away from sugars and carbs, but one think I'd like to change about what you said about adding fruit to plain yogurt - fruit is loaded with carbs and not the way to go. I used to put artificial sweetener in mine, but now I found flavored artificial sugar that Dr. Atkins developed. Its made from real sugar cane, but somehow they took out the sugar. Its wonderful! They all types of flavors - I find the vanilla, strawberry and raspberry taste the best. Its fairly cheap too. Most vitamin shops sell it. I got my last batch from the Vitamin Shoppe, but I shop all the on-line vitamin shops for comparison reason and buy it when ever its on sale. If any of you (and I know most of you do ) follow Dr. B's guidelines, the first thing he does with his patients is to put them on a low carb high protein diet. There is a lot of controversy about this, but since I went on it, my blood pressure is lower, and my bad cholesterol is too. Which makes no sense, because you eat so much fat, but I'm am living proof. At first the diet is extremely difficult, but after a week or so, you notice you aren't hungry, because protein stays with you longer and doesn't change your sugar/insulin process. Your body feeds off your own fat for energy. I may not be explaining this very well, but you can read it in Dr. Atkins "Diet Revolution" book. I notice my pain always increases when I cheat. But you do have to be careful - if you can't afford to lose weight. I lost 20 lbs in less than three weeks on this diet. But you can eat healthy. Just avoid most fruits, especially citrus, and corn, & sugar. Most green veggies are low in carbs. Also, as a rule of thumb, avoid potatoes, white flour, rice, pasta and bread and vinegar. Also Dr. Atkins has a product to substitute flour - for baking, so you can have some bread, I haven't tried it yet, so can't vouch for it yet. Its also a good idea to get a carb counter book (at drug stores), that list carbs in things like fruits and veggies that don't have labels. I feel I'm an expert on yeast too and Sue I don't mean any disrespect about your fruit comment - you have always been great at giving good advice. If any of you want to email me for more info or maybe a short list of carbs in common foods, I'd be happy to help you. I know it sounds like I'm touting Dr. Atkins products, but believe I don't make any money or anything for telling you guys this. And I'm sure their are other books and products for low carbs diets, like lots of protein bars (don't try Dr. Atkin's advantage bars - they are awful and their are lots of other protein bars with low carbs). Remember you don't have to totally eliminate the carbs, just lower them drastically. Sorry this is so long. But I implore all of you to try to cut down on carbs. But first talk to your doctor. Mine ok'd the Atkins diets, but made a few minor changes like adding legumes and nuts. When I crave a snack I eat peanuts, and vienna sausages, which I used to hate, now I love! Hope all of you are well. Sorry I can't make Dr. B's rally. I'm still fighting (since May) my Disability. I should know something soon. Then if I win, I will have an income again and be able to participate in future rallies. I feel extremely sad I can't make the rally, I know numbers help. Good luck every one - and thanks for all of you that are going. This means YOGURT too!!! It is loaded w/ sugar--except the PLAIN. You can add fruit to the plain. sue in nj
