Guest guest
Don’t get too excited. This is encouraging but it is a long way from mice to humans and will take quite a while to see if it works and what side effects there are. God bless. Here is some info on the announcement............ Garvan Institute claims rheumatoid arthritis success Researchers at the Garvan Institute in Sydney say they have developed a new drug which can cure the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. The drug was given to mice with the disease. Within hours, their inflamed tissue returned to normal. The Garvan Institute has signed a commercialisation deal with an international pharmaceutical company. Professor Mackay says they hope to start human trials of the drug next year. " You can induce rheumatoid arthritis in mice and their joints became inflamed and swollen, " he said. " When you apply our drug you can completely reverse this process and the joint looks completely normal and there is no evidence of any inflammatory cells in the joint. " .........sounds promising. Let's keep our fingers crossed on this one.
Guest guest
Hi in WI here. I think this is one of the type of drugs my rheumy is doing a clinical trial on . She mentioned something about a cure! It is an infusion drug you take once a year, But she said she would be starting this trial in a month or so. She is going to try to get me in it. So please please cross your fingers and toes that I get in this trial. As far as I know she is pulling from her patient base for this trial. She has her own clinic, with a lab and x-ray and MRI.southerncross032003 <rossmob@...> wrote: Hi everyoneA possible cure for RA has been announced by the Garvan Institute inAustralia. Guest guest
What would life be like without RA? I cant even imagine. Its amazing to even dream of it in my life time. I never thought I would see a day. Lets hope the trials work. What really staggers my mind is that they never cure diseases like this because there is no money in it. All the drugs you have to take etc, keep drug companies in business. I guess we have massive private research funding to thank. Government research hardly ever produces something like this. I hope you get into the trial. I will keep a good luck thought for you. Yours, Deborah in Maine On 2/11/06, susan smith <bizzare48@...> wrote: Hi in WI here. Guest guest
This is why it is so important to support the Arthritis Foundation's initiative, the Arthritis Prevention, Control and Cure Act. They are encouraging people to get their congressperson on board. Go to www.arthritis.org and read about how, if this act is passed, it will make a huge difference in research efforts. I'm particularly interested in it as I have RA, and my son has juvenile onset ankylosing spondylitis. If we can help these kids who suffer all the years of their life, what a wonderful thing it would be!By the way, there are all kinds of drug trials ongoing with new drugs being developed. Many centers have all kinds of research studies going on currently. You might also want to visit CARRA, which is a consortium of rheumatologists who are dedicated to efforts to find the cure! There is so much hope!, RN, adult onset RA, mom to Rob, 16, JAS On Sun, 12 Feb 2006 03:26:51 -0400 Deborah Bargad <dbargad@...> writes: What would life be like without RA? I cant even imagine. Guest guest
The Garvan Institute is in Sydney, Australia. Their announcement last week about a possible cure for RA has been B-I-G news down in this part of the world. Because the drug have been so successful in not only stopping the disease but also reversing the joint damage, in mice, the Institute now plans to fast track human trials. I would imagine these trials will be available to people with RA in Australia and New Zealand. If these are successful, then the drug will be made available world wide. The seriousness with which this announcement was made and the optimism of the researches has given me cause to be optimistic too. A future without RA? Yeah!! > Hi everyone > > A possible cure for RA has been announced by the Garvan Institute in > Australia. Guest guest
This is something they are getting very close to doing, A drug like this is getting ready to start clinical trials. My rheumy here in WI is one of the doctors going to run one of these trials. in WIsnowdrift52003 <snowdrift52003@...> wrote: Maybe they can, now.Sierra> >> > Don't get too excited.
