Our 8yr old son is taking it, but only started about 1 month ago. No positive

or negative results so far, but it is still early. We did stop giving him oral

Glutathione and Milk Thistle since starting Protandim. A friend's 5 year old

son is taking it (after having done IV Glutathione in the past) and they are

seeing some improvements. Feel free to email my husband at

vtecno_geek@... for more information. We were skeptical at first, but the

research looks good and personal testimonials from friends have been very

positive.

Hi Helen,

The ingredients in Protandim are the following:

• Milk Thistle – Supports liver health.

& #8232;• Turmeric – Provides a healthy response to inflammation.

• Green Tea – Increaces metabolism, burns fat. & #8232;

• Bacopa – Increases SOD and catalse production. & #8232;

• Ashwagandha – Used for centuries in India for numerous applications.

The ingredients are all good. I take them all. If you buy Protandim, however,

you will be paying $40 to $50 per month, while you can purchase the same

ingredients for a total of only $9 per month (Swanson's). Also, I'm pretty sure

you will get more of the ingredients by taking them separately, rather than the

amount that would fit into one capsule of Protandim. A quick check reveals that

Protandim is being sold by MLM (multi-level marketing) distributors:

Not my favorite way of purchasing supplements.

Hi, Dee,

I am glad to ask. Bacopa is new to me.  I am thinking to get it to

my adult son.  What do you think?   He has been taking couple drugs from

doctor to quell down his anxiety and OCD.   not sure if it is side effects

from drugs. His memory is bad and for years fast heart beat average around

Protandim gives a signal to increase the manufacture of antioxidant enzymes but

increased production requires precursor molecules to be adequate. Protandim does

not, however, provide the bonded cysteine precursors we find in the whey.

I think that some elderly people who can't produce adequate antioxidants even

though the precursors are there would benefit by increasing the message. The

majority respond well to the precursors without the Protandim.

Another product, Amega Global's AMGenex DNA, similarly switches on the genetic

expression to produce glutathione in 200 genes. It's active ingredient is a

specially concentrated sulforaphane. You can get standard sulforaphane in

several locations; I think AMGenex' claim to fame is the inclusion of several

exotic superfruit extracts.

Hi Helen,

Yes, Baccopa Monniera helps with memory:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20590480

It can, however, cause gastrointestinal side effects but I have not experienced

any.

Rapid heart beat can be caused by a number of reasons. I suffered from episodes

of very rapid, irregular heart beats for years - with many trips to the ER -

before it was discovered I had a congenital defect called mitral valve prolapse.

The usual EKG didn't find it and it wasn't until they finally did an Echo

Cardiogram that I was diagnosed correctly, so I would recommend he ask for that.

In the meantime these supplements will help as they have for me:

Fish Oils and Omega 3 acids. I use Carlson's Cod Liver oil and Chia Seeds soaked

in apple juice for that. Also Magnesium and CoQl0 are VERY important to regulate

the heart. I wish your son all the best as heart irregularities can be so very

scary.

Best,

Dee

Duncan,

Isn't Amega Global another MLM company you represent and promote on a number of

? In fact your Lindekin profile says you are an " owner " at Amega

Global:

Byron, a better understanding of the mechanisms involved here will help you.

Protandim and Amega DNA promote glutathione production. Full stop. Glutathione

production is known to require as a rate-limiting precursor, bonded cysteine,

which is not provided by these products. Look up rate-limiting cysteine; the

science is arirtight.

A lot of people have low glutathione production because of a lack of dietary

precursors. Once the precursors are plentiful, even elderly people don't usually

need to use a glutathione promoter. This is obvious also in the literature.

But if they do, and this would be a small minority, today we have Protandim and

the similar and arguable better Amgenex DNA, which also contains sulforaphane

while Protandim does not. Either should be used in addition to but not instead

of rate-limiting precursors.

It's not about " all or nothing " . Life an exercise in flexibility and compromise,

and we have more than one product here to choose from. You can certainly

compromise your health regime where you like, but because I know the subject

well I would not compromise my glutathione reserves by using a product that does

not provide precursors 'instead of' one that does. That compromise alone would

seriously undermine my health regime, and acquiescing to a weak link being

imposed on anybody's health regime when I know better would make me less than

useful, a troll in fact IMO.

Lots of people live " normal " lives without taking supplements. " Normal "

lifespans are around 76-83 years I think.

But ALL centenarians who survived to live to be 100 have well above normal

glutathione levels, and all people with high levels tend to be disease-free.

I think that since quality of life and longevity can be improved we should all

know that it will require adequate glutathione precursors. Note at this point no

drug enters the picture.

As to your direct question about research surrounding Amega's AMgenex DNA,

superfruit extracts generally have been well researched and selected for their

legendary attributes, just like the selection in Protandim. The sulforaphane

component in Amgenex DNA, which is not in Protandim, is also well researched.

This switches on gene expression for glutathione manufacture but you still need

the building blocks.

Find pretty much any of the reference material with the terms sulforaphane

references or Noni references and so on in the Gooogle search box. Here I leave

you with a quote from Amega's sites; All of Amega's material is FDA-legal so you

can use the keywords from the text below and find supportive data. The Cellactiv

they refer to is the sulforaphane.

DNA | Dynamic Nutrition Advantage™ is a world class breakthrough in the category

of functional foods. A unique fusion of some of the most notable superfoods

around. DNA active ingredients include Acai, Goji, Mangosteen, Amalaki (Indian

Gooseberry), Noni, Gac, Camu Camu and Pomegranate, giving DNA many benefits

beyond other products that promote a high-ORAC (antioxidant activity). And,

what's more only Dynamic Nutrition Advantage includes CellActiv®. A dramatic new

approach to cellular health, CellActiv enhances the cell's own internal defense

systems because it direcly interacts with the expression of the cell's DNA, the

Master Code of the body. The unique combination of CellActiv® and DNA's potent

array of bioactive ingredients provide significant sources of phytonutrients

with powerful benefits for promoting optimal health.

all good,

Duncan

> Your always talking about having proof. Where is your proof that it doesnt

work for the elderly?Protandim has proof that it works despite your opinion. Or

has Amega done clinical trials and published research in medical lit that I

unaware of? Protandim has, it has even the FDA's approval to make these claims.

Protandim is not strictly a glutathione product. Full Stop.

Whereas protandim has tested it on elderly without giving them cysteine and the

clinical proof is there, and its not just glutathione that is being raised it is

22 differant enzymes. Maybe you need to look at some of the research.

I didnt suggest all or nothing or instead of.

We are not just taking about Glutathione. You can compromise your health if you

want to by ignoring everthing else out there. I know your answer to everthing is

Glutathione but that is not just what this product is.

Thats my point what happens when you give people who already have naturally

occuring high levels of anti-oxidents even more?

Please get of the strictly glutathione kick thats not what I am talking about

with protandim. This is differant from your Whey products.

Where are the clinical trials to prove it? not just well researched but proven

Again not clinically tested or proven but alot of theory which is great but its

not the same. Orac values are worthless and I think you understand that.

again we are not just talking about Glutathione Duncan. And I'm not suggesting

it instead of something else.

You can do whatever you want without my approval.

Lyn,

Did you ever have a bad experience at a store? And have you stopped shopping at

stores? Or have a bad experience at a gas station to make you stop going to gas

stations? Just because of one bad experience with an MLM, doesn't mean they are

all bad to deal with.

In my experience of buying supplements for many many years, some from stores and

some from MLM's, I have found that MLM's are way more knowledgeable about the

products they sell than Walmart or Costco is.

How many people do you think get money when you buy at Walmart or a gas station?

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand your assessment of MLM's.

Carol

I don't like dealing with MLM's either, even if the product might be good. I had

a bad experience with one that firmly established how I feel about MLMs. My

resulting assessment is that they are just wrong, wrong, wrong in the way their

businesses are set up. No consumer should have to pay up to 7 people in a

downline big bucks to make a purchase.

Ya know I think she is saying that....

Yet another reason to hate MLMs -- consumers are forced to purchase their

products!!

I have never been associated with an MLM that forced consumers to buy stuff, and

if that was their policy then I wouldn't join that MLM either.
