When we started DAN - the first things we introduced were pure aloe vera,

colosturm, and taurine

Sophie slept through the night pretty much ever since - they heal the gut and

therefore no pin in gut in night waking kids up

Subject: [ ] NOT SLEEPING...PLS HELP!

Our son, 2 years old, has been waking up crying unconsolably in the middle of

the night. He also hasn't been taking his usual naps in the afternoons -seems

too wired up to rest.

The new things we started this week was Methly B12 tablets (1000mcg), No-phenol

(1 capsule) he takes both of these in the morning and Culterelle at night (1

capsule).

He also takes these in the morning, GSE (1 drop), OLE (1/4 tsp), Zinc, Vitamin

C, B-Complex, Magnesium, Multi Vit, & Omega 3's.

I don't know if the No-Phenol or Mehtyl B12 that I give him in the morning is

causing this no-sleep effect on him or if it's the Culterelle at night. He also

has puffiness under his eyes.

I feel so tired/ sleepy so if anyone can please tell me what they think I might

be doing wrong or if I should adjust any of these supplements so our son can

sleep better I would greatly appreciate it.

TIA,

Sleepy Mom

thank you for responding. I've ordered colostrum and I've been waiting for it

to arrive. What form of pure aloe vera did you use, juice?

Try leaving out the B12 and see what happens....it's just a hunch but I

do know will interfere with histamines. I can't remember if B12

(combining with folic acid) is counter-productive in low or high

histamine people.

Some kids who wake up crying are suffering from reflux. I'd look into that,

because if it is the cause, you'd want to treat right away.

Try a non-drowsy (I know sounds contradictory) antihistamine like loratidine.

Your child may have sleep myoclonus. How long is he asleep before waking?

(waking at 1 or 2 am?)

mB12 did this to my #3, until I gave it with folic acid and carnitine.

I also had to increase his yeast protocol.

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, our son can't take Motrin/ ibuprofen

because it causes regressions especially since where we live they don't sell the

non compound ibuprofen.

I did give him some Benadryl and it still took over an hour afterwards for him

to go to sleep :/

Yes, he's waking at around 2AM. He was sleeping really good up until we started

the B12, No-phenol and Culterelle this past couple of days. I'm just trying to

see which one could be the culprit of him not sleeping the same:/

> Should I just stop the B12?

B12 was very helpful here for language, social interest, reduction of OCD, and

reduction of certain stims. My son needed it with folic acid, B2, and

carnitine, plus an increased yeast protocol, so I would try giving it with those

and see if it helps.

You can remove it if you want, see if some things get better and maybe other

things get worse.

That sounds like our house when I gave b12. B12 really flares the yeast....and

that can keep them going at night. The yeast can cause them a lot of gut

pain...if it builds...at least for my kids. If you want to use it...up your

yeast protocol....maybe adding candex or candidease. You might need clay or

charcoal in an hour afterwards...but it is good.

As to the puffy eyes...they say that this is the worst year for allergies in 10

yrs or more. Have you tried querticin? That is something we use alot...helps

keep them more bearable.

Also how long have you been using the no-fenol? My kids had to start a lot

smaller and they were older...it takes several weeks to a month or so to get the

gut to calm down...gave my kids stomachaches and made them irritable.

Whatever you decide to do....do one at a time...reduce or remove the b12 or up

the yeast protocol....or add the querticin or adjust the no-fenol. Doing more

than one gets awful confusing for you to figure out.

Jesus grant you yours answers soon.

I would stop all three new things for a couple days and then re-introduce one at

a time, to find out what is causing the problem.

Benadryl is a class one antihistamine and will only help to get asleep, but not

to stay asleep.

If you sleep next to your child for one night, you will know if it is sleep

myoclonus. (He will jump/jerk in his sleep before he wakes up screaming.) If it

is myoclonus, you want to give the loratidine (class 2) rather than the

diphenhydramine (benadryl).

tired and sleepy 3 to 4 hours before bedtime, but actually slept an hour later.

I gave him Benadryl while I gave him his bath and he went down to sleep with no

problem and slept all night. I don't want to continue doing Benadryl everynight

if I continue to give him B12. Or is it necessary to give him the Benadryl until

his body gets used to the B12?

That always helps. But my point of asking you to sleep next to him was to see if

he had a myoclonic jerk at 2 am. My guess is that is what is happening and why

he is waking up. If you are next to him, you will know what comes right before

the scream snd waking up. After repeated incidences every night, he will look

like he is not getting restful sleep because he isn't.

I am not sure (yet) of any potential correlation with the B12 and sleep

myoclonus, but since myoclonus of any sort is neurologically related and B12

helps the neuro system, then it is possible. (Hence, why I recommended the class

2 antihistaminel; it affects the nervous system in a positive way for many

things (a side effect that, around here, has improved sleep, speech, and

appetite). This is really a question for a neurologist (not a DAN).

Do not give benadryl. Give loratidine. The drowsy has been removed for the

detrimental effects, but trust me, it works on the CNS in some of the same ways

for what you need.

For the record, I do not recommend giving Benadryl on a regular basis.

Have you tried melatonin, the timed release kind?  It works very well for us.

Also b12 can cause hyper behaviors and upset sleep patterns.  Can you space the

b12 further apart?  Epsom salt baths can help get rid of the oxidative stress

that b12 is causing.  30 min in a tub with between 1 and 2 cups of epsom salt.

I gave him Benadryl while I gave him his bath and he went down to sleep with no

problem and slept all night. I don't want to continue doing Benadryl everynight

if I continue to give him B12. Or is it necessary to give him the Benadryl until

his body gets used to the B12?
