Guest guest
Dear Gwen, I'll say a prayer for you. My 84 year old neighbor had her second knee done last September. She gardens her entire half acre and just yesterday she was out there working away. She is my good, good friend and an inspiration. love,
Guest guest
My mom could sail around to at 84 and had flowers everywhere and a lovely garden. Then it seemed like almost overnight she had stiff knees with OA and a year later was using a cane, then a wheelchair. At 87 she is in a nursing home and the only reason she is there is because of her knees. The doctor said she wasn't a good candidate for knee replacement because of her age. Scares me! Guest guest
Why because of her age GRRRRRR. She should find another DR I've read of people older than that getting them. If she has bad osterperosis I could see that as a reason, but with the price of nursing homes it's not even cost effective. Guest guest
I agree I think another good reason to do the surgery with the spinal anaesthsia. I have seen this done in a lot of older cases esp hips and the result is good. A second opinion never hurts. Gwen arjay wrote: > Why because of her age GRRRRRR. Guest guest
Hi Barb I had one knee replacement done 2 years ago and the other one done 1 year ago. I still get pain and swelling in mine too. I think it could be down to where they cut thru the nerves. Love Joyce Barb <roboma@...> wrote: I have a question for anyone that had a knee replacement about 5 years ago. Has anyone had pain and swelling in the area where the knee replacement is? My Drs. appointment isn't until the 23 of November but I would like some input from anyone that might have had the same problem. I just don't want to hear that I need another replacement because this one is causing problems. I have always gotten good replies when I have written because this group cares about each other. Thank You so much for caring. Barb == roboma2@...
Guest guest
Yes Barb, I just went through this with my right knee that was replaced 6 years ago. The only problem was the muscles that had become knotted and caused so much pain I could not walk. The doc did an MRI just to make sure the replacement was still in place and everything was fine. A massage therapist fixed my knee in 2 treatments but cautioned me to exercise to strengthen all the muscles. Good luck. Guest guest
Barb, My knee replacements are 9 years old and I've had bouts of pain and inflammation. What kind of pain is it? I get stiffness often, but get relief with exercise. It's nice to know that the inflammation can't erode these joints. Those nasty beasties can't chew threw titanium! I hope your knee is ok. a On Oct 27, 2005, at 11:21 AM, Barb wrote: > I have a question for anyone that had a knee replacement about 5 years > ago. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I too walk with a walker all the time, unless I'm on my scooter for long walks.(52 yo) I have been having trouble with my knees and have been getting cordisone shots every 4-6 months. My ortho is afraid that knee replacements in my case may not work, I do not have very much muscle left in my legs. He's afraid I'll be worse off, as long as we can control the pain he choses not to operate. I did not start using my walker, until I fell and broke my ankle 2 years ago. I was out and about and fell while wearing my braces. After that I used walker until I healed and then it became a confidence that if I used the walker and my knee or ankle gave out I would not fall. It is hard to give up the walker, but the thought of falling is scarer. Connie, P'burg, OH
