Are you doing a DMSA challenge, followed by the urine collection?

I believe so we have to give him the DMSA then collect urine after. I am not

sure what DMSA challenge means, sorry. Thanks for responding.

,

I'm pretty new to the group here and am trying to educate myself about

chelation and particularly the Cutler protocol for chelation.

From what little I do know, many people who employ the Cutler

method of chelation believe that executing DMSA challenges are very,

very dangerous: it essentially involves using a large amount of DMSA to

promote heavy metals to disengage from the body's cells and then testing

the urine to measure how much heavy metals can be found, and that this

process can have a lot of detrimental side effects. Again, I am not an

expert so you shouldn't rely on my opinion, hopefully some other members

will chime in. If somehow my understanding of this whole situation is

wrong, I apologize beforehand to you and to the group, but I felt

compelled to share with you what I know. It might be useful to mention

how much your child weighs and how much DMSA you have been told to give him.

I think his next question will be how much DMSA are you giving to this little

one with each dose?

Challenge tests have little diagnostic value. If you are looking for proof that

mercury or other heavy metals are in his tissues, ALL of us have mercury and

other heavy metals in our tissues and will excrete when given a chelator. It

also will not tell you how much mercury is in the internal organs or brain. High

doses of DMSA are risky, and can lead to devastating setbacks that are sometimes

hard to reverse. Think of all that mercury dumping at once, taxing the little

kidneys/liver and probably not being fully excreted, only to resettle back in

tissues and the brain. That will happen with each 8 hours dose... I assume you

are being told to give the DMSA every 8 hours.

: honestly, the best way I know to test for heavy metals is to look for

behavioral and physical improvements from chelation. I know that isn't the

answer you are looking for. There is the French (as in from France) Urine

Porphyrin test that looks for the effects of mercury in the elevation of certain

proteins in urine called porphyrins. Unless things have changed, I've been told

that is fairly accurate. We had this done in 2009.

If you need this challenge test to convince a husband or an insurance company to

chelate your child, then please use a safe amount of DMSA and dose it every 4

hours. A safe amount is up to 1/2 mg per lb of weight (per dose; a 50lb kid

would get up to 25 mgs DMSA per dose).

Good luck to you.

Hello Pam thank you so much for your response. I am wondering if you have heard

of doing a hair sample to test for heavy metals? Is that more accurate and safe

than doing the DMSA? How does the porphyrin test work? How do I send out for it?

Did your DAN doctor recommend it to you? Thanks for your help!!

Hair test is totally safe. Actually, you can use the Doctors Data Hair Elements

test (that specific one) and post the results to this group. Their are certain

skilled people here that can apply what is known as the 'counting rules' to see

if your child is basically mercury toxic. I've been told that is quite

reliable, as well as being able to tell you other things about your child.

You can order that yourself, or your DAN! can order it, too. I've had several

hair tests done on my son over the years.

The Porphyrin test might have to be ordered by the doctor. I'm not 100% sure.

Ours was ordered by the DAN! doctor. It is 1 urine sample, from what I

remember, that is shipped from your home. The results came to me via email

quite quickly, but there can be a long time to wait if there are a lot of people

submitting tests. This is the lab (to pass on to your DAN! if he isn't aware)

address from when we tested:

Laboratoire Philippe Auguste

119 Avenue Philippe Auguste

75011 Paris France

DMSA is safe. DMSA challenge tests (with high doses) are not. Very different.

I have been using DMSA and ALA for about 100 rounds and my son is doing quite

well without any negatives. He weighs 65lbs and I give him 50mgs each dose.

That is a high dose, but he tolerates it well. I give it every 4 hours for 72

hours along with 25mgs ALA.

Take care,

Pam

Sounds like a challenge test. Don't do it. It can be harmful and hurt your child

even more.

Subject: [ ] Need advice on chelation urine test

Hello Everyone- I have to start my son on DMSA and collect urine from him over a

6-8 hour period. Ok so here is my dilemma, he is not potty trained yet and my

doctor said he can only drink water while he is doing the test. My son will not

drink plain water, will it effect the test if I use flavored seltzer water with

a little bit of juice. How do I give it to him, what is the best way to

administer the DMSA. Do I give it to him the the morning before breakfast or

after? Do I skip giving him his vitamins for the day? Any advice on how to do

this would be so greatly appreciated. I have been putting it off for a while

dealing with other treatments, but I have to do it this weekend. Does anyone

know of a more simple way to test for heavy metals? Collecting the urine is

going to be the hardest part. I have those little baggy things that stick around

the penis, but I don't think my 3 year old ASD son will like that very much.

Thanks so much for your time, any

stories or advice would be great. Thanks again!!

Please use the hair test instead of the DMSA challenge test. Wish I had known

before putting my son through it. Many weeks of regression afterwards (very

stimmy, brain fog). Prior to the test, he was doing very well.

The FAQ and " Files " section has a lot of good info. Check out Andy Cutler's

interview and protocol which explains a lot.

Direct Lab has a sale on hair elements test. Use coupon code AUT. your final

cost is $60.

All the best!
